Bone marrow transplant shows promise as Crohn's disease cure

Doesn't a BMT require total body irradiation to kill the original bone marrow, or is that only in some cases?

Do you have to take anti-rejection medication for it?

Seems kind of extreme.

I think there are 3 members her that have been through this. Right off hand I can't remember their user names but you could use the search function and stem cell therapy to find their threads that documented their journey.

These members were at a point where their meds had failed them I considered to have refractory CD.

It seems by their last responses they had been able to maintain remission.

There are different types that are being performed some harvest the stem cells from the patient which one think is autologous and others get the stem cells from a donor.

Here is another journey thread

The third thread is by a user jcmcbride I believe and the stem cells were harvested from her sister. You can probably find it by using the username in the search function
