Hey everyone!

I know its been a while since I've been on here. I think probably since right after I had Sadie in April. It's been a long road. The baby is great and we love her so much!

I ended up with that nasty bout of cholangitis and pancreatitis while still pregnant, and fought that for a month after delivering her. Then I got news form a cat scan I had done that my crohn's was looking terrible.

When I was first diagnosed 12 years ago, I had Crohn's all the way from my esophagus all the way through my rectum. In the past few years it has just stayed around the terminal illeum. I had a scope done at the beginning of June and now have strictures in my small intestine, and the Crohn's has now spread back to my colon and rectum. It's all going haywire right now! I need to have a bowel resection, the doc wants to take out the strictures in the ileum. But, he wants the other areas to get under control first.

So my question is, has anyone had a laparoscopic bowel resection? And did it take you long to heal from it? This surgery has been a long time coming. I don't really WANT to have surgery, but it seems that is the only way that I will start feeling better. I would like to just get it done and over with before Sadie starts to crawl and walk so I can keep up with her.

Its so friggin' hard sometimes physically and definitely emotionally trying to care for this sweet baby while feeling so nasty. I almost feel guilty at times because, I just feel like she deserves better than what I can give her. Does anyone else ever feel like that?

Anyway, I've missed it here! I hope everyone is doing well, and sorry for the hiatus!

Hey Amanda!

I'm so sorry to hear about what is going on with you...:(. I was hoping that not seeing you around mean't all was well. Great to hear bubs is powering along though! YAY!

Unfortunately they couldn't do Matt's surgery laparoscopically but even with open surgery by week 4 post op he really turned the corner. Done laparoscopically your recovery should be quicker than that though.

No doubt there will be someone along with a better answer than me!

Good to see you back hun, I've missed ya!

Much love :Karl: and a big  for Sadie!

Hey Manz :)

I'm 3 weeks after a resection done mainly laparoscopically, though had a 6 inch cut vertically through my belly button to pull the dodgy bits out ! Had been in the middle of a bad flare up for many months, and though wasn't looking forward to my first ever surgery, at that point I was desperate to get in and get it done, and I never thought I'd hear myself say that !

And........ 3 weeks later, the turn round is just amazing. The surgery was no problem, pain klling drugs were awesome, I've been out of hospital for 2 weeks now and put on around 20 lbs, bowel working as it should, for the first time since the middle of last year, it's such a relief !! Good luck with your surgery, I'm sure it'll turn you round :)

Hi Dusty!!! How is Matt and Roo doing??
I've missed you too, I've been thinking about you guys and hoping everything is going better for Matt.

You know, for the past 5 years I've just been sick for most of the time. The Crohn's just never heals up in my illeum. I was suppose to have surgery a couple of years ago, but put it off and ended up taking prednisone for a while and that helped me to avoid surgery back then. I'm hoping that the surgery will finally give me some much needed relief. These last few years I've just been in a constant state of crappiness.

Yes, Sadie is doing amazing!! She was so small when she was born, but now weighs in at 12lbs and is 23 inches long! :) She is so great!

Thank you shnjmsn! That's great that you are doing well and it went good. That is always nice to hear!

Sarah and Matt are fine hun, thanks for asking. Actually they are in Sydney together at present, going to see Harry Potter and shopping!

Matt has done really well since surgery, hasn't looked back. I'm sure you will have a positive outcome with yours and some long overdue relief!

Awww, that is so fab to hear about Sadie...:):):) You both must be as proud as punch! I am so, so happy for you.

Thinking of you all, always.

Hi Amanda, welcome back! Sorry things aren't going so well chronswise for you! I hope the surgery does the trick so you can get back to the things that matter most!! I love that name, Sadie!! Is your hubby still home? Is he still in the military?

While I have never had a SBR with scopes - too much scar tissue in there at this point. But I had my ovarian cysts worked on with scopes and it was such an easy recovery than when they've opened me up.

I have too much scar tissue in there now. So bad that they had to open me up 'the hard way' to get my gallbladder out and am looking at another SBR 'the hard way', but I know I will feel better than I have in two years when I come through the other end. Honestly, that's the most important thing. When you feel so much better, the surgery and the pain fades when you feel human and can live your life semi-normally again. It's more than worth it.
