Hi I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in October 2012. I had a bowel resection last Friday 5/17 and had an NG Tube. The tube was removed on Monday and my throat is still really irritated today. Has anyone else had this issue A side note, I did have a cough that started last Sunday with mucus. The cough is still happening but is not as bad and that may also be a contributing factor to my throat irritation. Also, I was wondering how long the incision site bothered other people? While I was still in the hospital I had BM on Tuesday and Wednesday and nothing since them but was on a liquid diet until today (Friday). Would this also be normal until I get my system back to eating regular food? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Bram and a big welcome to the forum. I didnt have an NG tube so cant comment on that. Recovery does vary from person to person. Did you have open or laparoscopic surgery? Mine was the latter and I needed painkillers for about 3 weeks after which surprised me a bit. Bowel movements can take a while to get into a regular pattern again and loose stools are quite common for a bit. Hoping all goed well with your recovery.

Bram: Don't want to sound like an expert, but I would think that it's very normal to have a sore throat for about a week after an NG tube comes out. In fact, if the tube raked the back of your throat as it went down, it takes a little longer for it to heal. My throat hurt for 2 and a half weeks afterward and actually had a scab going down my thoat. UGH. A cough is also normal after surgery. Your lungs are trying to get rid of all the anesthesia, and it's actually good for you to cough. If it turns colors, then you might want to get it checked out.

Sounds good and normal as far as the stools. Your pain should be getting a bit better every day.

I've had one resection and 2 exploratory laps and have taken care of a LOT of post-op patients. BUT, if you are uncomfortable with anything, or get worse, you need to check in with yiur Doc.

Good Luck and welcome! I've found a whole lot of really good people and a lot of help on here.
