Well, I want to carefully report our latest update, which is wonderful and positive in the sense that Isaac is in remission according to our doctor, and for the longest time in the past couple years we are not even scheduled to go back in for 3 months.
But I am starting this report under a new thread because of our recent experience, which sounds dubious, and I will fully confess that I am reticent to attribute Isaac's healthy state of well-being now with this treatment. But at the same time, I want to share the experience so others may know about it and in turn, if they choose the route, share their stories, whether positive or negative.
Over Christmas we learned about brainwave optimization through a family friend who had suffered for years the debilitation of ALS. Recently she got turned on to the treatments, underwent super improvement with her disease, and when she saw IBD listed under diseases that have been reported to improve with the treatments, she also gained the interest of my mom. I wanted to refuse, to be honest, because it seemed like me to be a waste of money and not scientifically satisfying enough. But my mother said she would foot the bill, and it is seems harmless enough (noninvasive except for listening to sounds) that we decided to give it a go.
As you who were following our story probably remember, we had been battling steroids and treatments for the previous year plus, and our doctor had elevated the conversation to trying out humira or remicade and opened the conversation about surgery. Instead, when Isaac last showed bloody stools, we talked with the doctor about waiting it out to see what the natural healing process was like (the blood wasn't so much as to be a mortal concern, and we discussed what the limits were on this with our doctor), and we avoided steroids and saw some natural healing, although in January he again started showing blood and having some stomachaches. We were on the fence about going down the route of more pharmeceuticals, but we scheduled the brainwave optimization treatments for the first week of February.
Well, since those treatments, Isaac turned right around and has been doing fantastic. We went in for a second round of 4 treatments at the beginning of this month and yesterday at the doctor they were really surprised at how healthy he was. In February when we went in it looked like things were improving but not yet to the point we were yesterday, when the doctors said, "We don't know how to explain it, but he is doing great."
Well, I think all intimately involved with IBD will attest to its cyclical nature, and perhaps we are just happening on the upswing of that. Maybe the brainwave optimization helped and maybe it didn't. We did notice lots of improvements in Isaac's cognitive growth and development since February, but then again, he is at that age, and if his body is healing, well then, it would make sense that his mind will be developing healthily as well.
Brainwave optimization is about helping the brain get and stay in balance with itself. The idea is that in turn, the healthy brain will help a body heal itself. The technology for this, and its application, as far as I can tell, has gone under different company names but has been in use since the seventies. There is plenty to find out there with a google search. The company in charge of our treatments was http://www.brainstatetech.com/. Like I say, I want to be delicate about putting it out there, but if you have any experience with it or have heard anything about it, please share.
As usual, you can catch an update on our blog.
