Hi guys,

I just wanted to ask as no matter what I do for breakfast every work day I feel ill for a while in the morning. It always kicks in after I get to work.

It didn't used to be the case, but has started happening lately since my Imuran morning dose was increased (only by half a tablet though), I was (temporarily) in a more stressful role at work and on returning to my previous position was asked to shift sideways into another team where I have no experience and am currently learning it now.

I know most likely it is due to stress, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for breakfast on not so good days.

Most days I have an Ensure shake first thing in the morning which I also use to take my medication. When I get into work I usually have a soy hot chocolate and muffin, neither of which I have ever had any issues with before now. I have to wait for a bit before I eat solid food as I feel awful if I do eat first thing in the morning.

I am about to go through a bunch of tests as they have found a stricture in my small bowel so I know the stress of that is also contributing, but if I can find something easier to tolerate in the morning so I don't feel as bad it will make things much easier to deal with.

I tend to make smoothies for breakfast as solid food isn't always my friend in the mornings. I start with crushed ice and add almond milk and a banana. I then add some pea protein powder, powdered peanut butter, chia seeds, psyllium husks, and cocoa powder to make it chocolatey. I blend that all up and pack it in my lunch bag, and drink it at my desk when I'm feeling ready and not too nauseous. That usually works quite well for me.

If I were more ambitious and had the energy and time in the mornings to do so, I'd make myself a Japanese style breakfast. My guts really loved all the food when I was in Japan. The breakfasts there are a lot different than what I'm used to here in the US - it was a lot of rice, noodles, fish, salad, and some "classic" breakfast foods like eggs. That always sat well with me, so if I ever get my act together, I'll have more breakfasts like that.

Ditto on the homemade smoothies. Some ideas banana, cooked butternut squash, pure pumpkins, avocado, coconut oil, pineapple, berries, oatmeal blends nicely and so does spinach. Include some hemp seed or chia. Bought meal replacements are often too hi in sugar. Be mindful of the amount of fruit...one serving
