I need some advice/recommendations for breakfast.

Im struggling to find a good nutritional meal to start off the day. I am gluten, dairy and sugar free, so generally my breakfast consists of rice and lean meat or steamed veggies with tuna.

I would like to have something on the lines of rolled oats or the like, but all the packaging says it contains gluten.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Fou

Smoothies can be good.

Try a rice cake with peanut butter (the kind without sugar). Good way to get some protein. Sometimes I eat two. And a banana on the side.

You can find gluten free oats out there - some say they include gluten because the facility that processes it also processes foods with gluten. But there are some companies that focus on gluten free foods and they offer certified gluten free oats.

I bake myself some sort of pancakes. Here is the recipe I came up with.
Crêpes
¼ cup almond flour
¼ cup millet flour
¼ cup tapioca flour
¼ cup brown rice flour
½ cup soy milk
1 egg (or 2 if you prefer)
(baking soda)) (if allowed)
A bit of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg. I also like some shredded ginger sometimes.
I make variation adding apple sauce or mashed bananas. Then I add some soft tofu and fruits.

I like to make a batch and store the left over in the fridge, it gives me something to snack on here and there. I also like to eat rice cake or crackers with some hummus.

But that only works if carbohydrates are ok.

I like some soup for breakfast too... even though its a bit weird at first.

If you eat eggs,
I like to keep some hard boiled eggs, they are handy in the morning.
Or I also like to add a fresh one to my smoothies + almond flour, it keeps me going longer... But mine are with fruits... I don't know how it would be with veggies... probably a bit odd. lol

Flaked Quinoa is gluten free, I havent used it in a while but I put cinnimon in it, and I use rice milk.

I still can eat large flaked Oatmeal, keeps my bowels regular.

I really like 100% pure pumkin puree-heat in the microwave with a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon and whatever kind of sweetner you like to taste. I'll have that with a poached egg and I'm good to go. Also I like to poach apples too to change it up a bit.

In the UK (Sainsburys to be exact) I get Rice & Buckwheat porridge that I do with unsweetened soya milk, honey and, as I can tolerate it at the moment, ground almonds done in the microwave. I also have 2 slices of toasted Genius white gluten free bread spread with sunflower oil dairy free butter and usually tinned tuna. Its pretty quick and tastey.

This morning I had a smoothie with spinach, banana, aloe vera juice, raspberries, strawberries, water, and flax seeds.

The banana wasn't quite ripe enough so it got a weird flavor :| but overall was pretty good. It hasn't bothered my digestion.

I never eat breakfast because I'm just not hungry that early in the morning and I usually don't have time (Stupid I know), but the other day I actually had a giant bowl of fruit loops with fruit punch in it (I dont drink milk) and it was soooo good! It's probably not too healthy though lol

No offense KWalker but that sounds DISGUSTING to me. But then again, read what I just ate, probably pretty gross to other people! :p

Lol that's okay. Everyone thinks its grosse. I grew up putting juice in my cereal because I could never drink milk. I actually really like it

If you cant porridge then I would go for a fried breakfast, pick 2 or 3 things from good quality sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, hash browns etc. They have very little added salt and sugar and I find i feel much better on that than cereals.

I also have different kinds of melons for brekfast but it doesnt fill me up

Porridge with a generous drizzle of honey to sweeten is my baby most mornings . It keeps me going till lunch time.

Also white toast with smooth peanut butter.

Weekends I really go to town! 2 boiled eggs, toast, various cheeses.

A bowl full of fruit.

A salad.

Try this:

Glutan free rolled oats, eggs whites, a scoop of two of lactose free protein powder and a littel something for flavour (berries, cocoa powder, etc); Chuck it in a blender, then on the griddle and you';ve got some super pseudo pancakes :)

Hi Fou,
You can follow my breakfast, this is what I take in breakfast.
1 chicken breast with 1 cup of steamed brown rice and 1 small raw food salad.

After reading a book called "Life without Bread" 18 months ago and then starting a high fat, high protein and low carb diet as suggested, I have a remarkable turnaround with my symptoms. November last year after reading another book called "Sweet Poison" I decided to also cut sugar out of my diet altogether and the crohns symptoms have almost completely disappeared. So to your question about breakfast I have two slices of homemade egg bread with a big slice of butter and sliced meat like salami or chicken pate on top. this is washed down with a cup of green tea and full fat cream. I find this very easy to eat and keeps me going until lunchtime and sometimes beyond. Most importantly I don't get that large bloated feeling or dis-comfort that I get if I was to eat lots of carbs for breakfast.
If you would like to give the bread a try here is the recipe.

Butter a rectangular cake mould thickly.
Add a pinch of salt to
10 egg whites and beat until stiff. Then, still beating, add the 1 0 egg yolks one by one. Once this is done, add a half cup of flour (100g.) mixed with two teaspoons of baking powder. Now add a half bar (100g) of melted, cooled butter. Pour into the cake mould. Bake for about an hour at 200C. To prevent the bread from falling, allow it to cool in the oven after it has been turned off.

Ido it aswell when i could tolerate juice it's heaps better than milk makes the cereal tastier

we don't beleive in milk round here its is just to fatten up calves you know us humans are the only mamals to consume milk after infancy and we take it from another species how crazy is that cows milk is the same as breast milk for the calf

just my 2cents worth

I'm having a problem with breakfast also. At 20 years old I don't really try things "outside the box" and I grew up on cereal every single day. Now however, milk tears me up pretty bad. This morning I tried a bagel with cream cheese, and thats not sitting too well either. Eggs are hit and miss with me. So tomorrow I will try a few slices of cinnamon toast (white bread toasted, spread some butter and sprinkle the cinnamon on top)

Other than that, I'm kind of at a loss. I don't really like oatmeal, and I find myself being very picky in the mornings. I have to eat "breakfast foods". I can't eat like...chicken when I wake up. I just can't. I need my breakfast.

Luckily I am not gluten, dairy, and sugar free. I couldn't imagine that. Good luck with your search!

Egg Muffins?

Can you eat eggs? If so, maybe egg "muffins" would be a choice. You can make ahead and reheat in the am. I saw one woman just mixes eggs, cheese and whatever cooked veggies she wants to add in a blender. Kalyn's Kitchen has some recipes for a few types (you can add the veggies or meats that you can eat). They freeze well. My teenage son microwaves a couple in the morning when I make them.

The oatmeal with banana is really good :)

Try non-traditional breakfasts like a lunch style (sandwich) or dinner type (salmon w/veggies)., etc. I found having heavier meals earlier in the day is easier digestion than late night meals.

Ever since my full obstruction in early 2011, my breakfast diet has changed considerably and now I stick to the following every day.

Single serving of Cream of Rice (adding a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar)
A quarter of fresh cantaloupe
Sourdough english muffin
Glass of cranberry juice

You might have to search around for a gluten free substitute for the bread, but with this breakfast meal, I can finally get through the entire morning without any rumblings or generally feeling lousy.

(Once every few weeks though I will break down on a weekend and hit up a local restaurant for some pancakes, sausage, eggs, the works....)

This is something I need to sort out aswell. I've had the same thing for breakfast for god knows how long-cup of tea, milk 1 sugar with 2 slices of white bread with butter. At weekends I'm partial to a full English fry up-I love em.

I like porridge, but it takes ages to cool down and I'm starving first thing in the morning so I just have toast. Only thing is, I go to the loo within half hour of breakfast then I'm hungry again?!
