Well the latest from out household is that Claire is having FREAKY bruising on her back. I've called the GI and he's ordered labs. We see him next week. Anyone else's kiddo bruise like that? I may try to post a picture so you all can see. I'm worried!

J

Julie,

I'm sorry I have no suggestions but I'm so sorry that you have something else to worry about! :( Strange that it is only on her back??? Are they coming and going? Or did she just develop the bruises all at once?

Johnny had weird bruises on his legs. They did blood work and everything was normal. About two weeks after that they called to say his white blood cell count was a 5. His meds had to be adjusted (it was a side effect) and now it has normalized. It was freaky at first even our pediatrician was concerned but all was okay. Good luck hun, you guys deserve a break already! ((((Hugs)))))). Tiff

Oh J , that's scary for you I'm sure !
Gab gets random bruising from the Cimzia injections. Scared the crap outta me first time, but after bloods said she was ok, i relaxed a (little)

Has Claire ever had a problem with anemia ?

I'm trying not to obsess. The bruises were sudden. Looks like she got 20 lashes across her back. For the record, she hasn't. We see GI next week anyway but he's ordered labs in advance of the visit. I'll keep you all posted. Love y'all for checking in on us.

J.

Keep us posted Julie,
I hope it is nothing. Maybe she bumped into and did not remember? I am always doing that. We have had some weird issues with bruising and Caitlyn had a blood vessel pop in her eye and half her eye turned red. They did a bunch of blood work which all came back normal. She was on remicade at the time and I kept wondering if that was the cause.

Julie - I just wanna say - best of luck!! Love u and I hope it's "just" a med side effect !!

Thanks for keeping us informed in the midst of your mommy stress ! :)

Yikes J!

When you say that it looks like she got 20 lashes, are the 'bruises' straight lines? Is that what you mean?

Could they be stretch marks caused by Prednisone or a sudden growth spurt?

Dusty. xxx

Dusty made a mistake ??? NO !! Stop the presses !! LOL

J ~ if that's what Claire's bruises look like , "stretch marks" than that happened to Austin and it scared the begezzzuuussss out of me! They were awful looking ! He grew 8 inches in a few month period and woke up one day looking like he had been whipped ! They are much less noticeable now tho.
It also happened to Gab while she was on the dreaded Prednisone ! She got them around the outside of her knees, her back, shoulder/arm pit area, and a few other places :/
That is the sole reason why she said she will NEVER take them again. :(

Johnnys looked like the picture Dusty posted. It looked like someone ran their finger nails up and down on his thighs. Took about a week to disappear. It was on both legs.

Okay here they are. I don't think they are stretch marks though. They are starting to fade like a bruise. This is the night I found them. I had to shrink the photo size to get it on here. Hopefully y'all can see.

Oh good grief - it's still a HUGE picture. So I'm sure you can see......

Hey J,

No problem seeing the pic :). It looks more like some sort of rash???

Dusty. xxx

I don't think it's a rash, unfortunately. Or if it is, it's completely flat.

Ok, that doesn't look like stretch marks or bruises .
It looks to me like she was really itchy and scratched like crazy!
Was she recently in grass, bushes, etc ?

Neither. And it doesn't itch. She had no idea. Weird right? We specialize in weird. Lol

It looks almost like petechiae to me. Which is like little popped blood vessels. Did she rub up against something hard? This can occur from anemia. What is her blood count?

That almost looks like she spent a long time lying against something that irritated her back. You haven't changed laundry detergent lately have you?

No detergent change. Petechiae makes sense to me - I hadnt really thought of that THANKS She played on the swings at the park that day but that's not unusual. This happened one other time right before she landed in the hospital but she had lain on a rubber mat at the pool and there was a near perfect imprint of the mat pattern on her back in the same shades of purple. That was last May. I just decided at the time not to worry unless it happened again.

4 weeks ago her counts were the best they've been since last summer. However she is actively bleeding. We are visiting the lab this weekend in advance of Thursdays GI visit.

Thank you all for responding!

J.

PS Dex - we were at Kyoto last night. Where were y'all? Lol

The Dr. said Johnny's was petechiae. The only thing I could link it too was the low WBC count. But they adjusted meds and he is fine now.

Hope you get some good answers on Thursday.

((((hugs)))))

I have this on my legs.. like on my inner thighs.. i've had it for a year now and it's so weird. My doctor says it's just stretch marks because i'm growing and just to put bio-oil on them. But they look exactly the same. So weird. The website above says about rapid weight gain or loss, but my weight hasn't changed in ages.

That is petichiae I am certain.
That it it so localized and not all over her body makes me think that area was "traumatized" (using the term loosely) by some contact trauma but still shouldn't break small vessels like that unless her platelets are low.
I'm sure the doc is checking all blood components, I'll be interested in the results.
I can well relate to the stress of "unexplained"... wish I could say I didn't...

Made our trek to the lab today. Checking all the usual CRP, CBC, ESR, Retic count and Metabolic panel + the lovely fecal calprotectin. Claire is always horrified by a "brown bag special". :p

The marks are about gone - she has some red dots on her upper thighs now. I'll be surprised if her labs are completely normal. The anemia (given the events of summer) makes sense.

On a lighter note, she's gone like gangbusters all weekend - can't hold that girl down!

J.

I notice a lot of your mention blood counts and anemia etc.. i've got the marks on my legs but all my blood tests are clear.. so i'm not sure it's down to that.

Hi Julie,

I hope Claire's marks were just a one-time occurrance! Hope the lab results are all good! :)

Overall labs decent. Fecal calprotectin >2500. Sigh. Starting rowasa enemas and doubling balsalazide.

J.

I'm glad they didn't think the marks were concerning. Did they say it was down to anemia?
I know all about those lactoferrin (similar to calprotectin) levels being in the thousands...V's has been many many times and more often than not. :(

Oh J......I hope the meds are able to bring things back into line ASAP. Give Claire a big squishy hug from me! Bless her.

Thinking of you all mate, :ghug:
Dusty. xxxxxxxx

Dusty - he originally wanted hydrocortisone enemas in the AM and rowasa every PM. I smiled sweetly and said "You're coming home with me, right?". He thought again and agreed since she isn't in a full blown crisis and the bleeding is bright red and the pain seems isolated to the left and her counts are good - that we'd start with one and go from there.

J.

:( Aww, Julie... I hope the meds clear things up quickly for Claire! :ghug: But glad it seems that the bruising isn't a concern. :rosette1:

Seems since her H&H is okay and the bruising faded, I'm the only one worried. ;)

LMFAO J! I bet the look on his face was priceless! Good one...:thumleft:
