Just a question. I have read that Prednisone causes many side effects, and Budesonide (Entocort) has many less side effects.
Is it true that they do not offer Budesonide in the US?

Entocort is Budesonide...I have been on it. It may not work as well for some patients, but it is much better as fas side effects are concerened. It was an upper tier drug on my insurance and was a little pricey.

I am the same with IMP, I was on it for a month and did squat, but I had other things going on. I am pretty sure you can get it in the states. I think My butt hurts had one post with prices on it, but maybe she will see this, I can't remember, I am from Canada lol.

Yep IMP is right, it is available in the US, I was on it for a few months. The way my GI explained it to me was it is mostly absorbed by your gut and not by your whole body as is the Pred, so the side effects are less. Didn't seem to do much for me, I was great on the Pred, switched to Entocort and started having panic attacks!! Not sure if the Entocort caused it or if it was something else, but since going off of it I haven't had any, so who knows!

Hiya Ibdoer
I was on Budesonide AKA Entcort for 2 months Nov 09, but it didn't do anything for me either, everyone's different I suppose
On Preds now tapering to 30mg after 6 weeks on it, and I wish I'd have been on it years ago!
I think it's been great, and the side effects have been manageable, I've no pain at all, no D, have put a bit of weight on, face starting to 'moon'and I have insomnia, but it's a small price to pay, I feel so well!

USA here, I was also on Entocort for a while. I had no side effects from it at all.

This is where I'm glad that all my drugs are £7.20 and free if I have them in hospital lol.

As to budesonide.. I didn't notice any side effects but it was no where near as effect as the pred. Swings and roundabouts!

I'm currently on Entocort and I live in the U.S. I haven't experienced any noticeable side effects, except perhaps a little insomnia at night. I've been on it for about 2 weeks now. It was SOOOOO expensive, but thankfully my insurance covered it. The retail price was over $1000 for 90 pills. I think I paid $20 or something.

Entocort did my post surgery time for 7 years great, absolutely NO side effects, but I was pretending I cured it in my head and led to flares, led to a second surgery. I tried just for a month and landed in the hospital and now on Pred, which I wonder if I have of went on Pred in the first place I may have avoided a hospital say ;). I have 100% insurance and now have a brand new month's supply of Entocort I cant use.
