So after a really long time of not having D.... it came back. It was either the home-made yoghurt or the flagyl/cipro that triggered it. Either way it sucks and now I have to do something about it.

My holistic doc told me to go on a 7 day burst of 50mg or Pred.

Has anyone ever done this?

Just seeing if this'll do the trick in calming things down.

sounds good my doc told me if your going to use steroids go in hard with them,so get them down your neck and get it sorted:eek:

I was on Pred for about 8 months before coming off it. I've never done the 7 day high dose but heard of people who have. You can only try and see what happens. I hope you get some relief soon!

I have done burst many times. Saved my butt plenty of times.
I always do half a MG per KG.. So I would usually do about 30mg for 4 days.. 25 for 2 days and finish it with 20. if I REALLY needed to, Id make it a 10 day just to taper from 20 - 15- 10- 5.. (To be on the safe side)

I always do short bursts... Unfort. I am out of prednisone and Can't seem to get a script for it.

I have never been on a week long burst but it seemed ok. I have been off since Monday and my stools returned to soild normal today (I also went back to the intro diet for SCD).

I have been having trouble with my asthma for awhile so I did have to bump up my 100/50 advair to 250/50.

It seems ok though. Doc said I'm a 5/10 for Crohn's so maybe with my case not being as severe it helps enough to get by. I guess we'll see!

I just got done with a week long burst which helped temporarily. However my CD decided not to be a team player and came back with a vengeance. It was great for the time but now I feel like youtubing how to do a bowel resection on yourself.

I would never attempt any home surgery, but I think that was the problem is that the doc didn't give me a chance to taper off over a long period of time. I hope it works for you and good luck!

In the past i have been on month long tapers on pred, and done the bursts when i have caught my flare at the very earliest, my GI team back in Scotland were fab at seeing me at the earliest drop of blood and got me on meds quick as (i am out in New Zealand for a year working, not used to the team out here yet)
But yeah, used to have a burst of a week of 40, then a week of 20 then stop. It seemed to catch the mild ones. the flares that wanted to hang around needed more of a hit so would have to stay on them longer.
Got started on Azathioprine 6 years ago and the amount of times i have needed Pred have dropped substantially, but looking like i am getting toxic now so will have to start coming off the Aza so Pred may be my new best friend again, sad times...
