Very concerned, my ten year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's and EoE in April of 2012. He did well until October of 2012, came down with C-Diff that trigggered a major Crohn's flare, eight days in the hospital and missed eight weeks of school. We elected to start Remicade Infusions every eight weeks due to fear of having to remove his colon. He is also is given daily VSL DS Sachets and Florastar. He had a scope at Emory June 4th of 2013 and his doctor was shocked the scope was clear and biospies came back clear however I requested a fecal calprotectin test and received the results on Monday and they are 1250!Update on very high Fecal Cal-Proctectin Results (Over 1250)
Since receiving the results on Monday July 29th I have made several contact attempts via email, fax and phone to Colin’s TWO Pediatric GI’s who are very well known and thought of in SC and GA. The Greenville’s nurses called us back yesterday and the doctor was on vacation until next week. The Emory nurse finally called this AM and said they are becoming part of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and are no longer allowed to communicate via email. She did not have an explanation as to why she had not returned my call from Tuesday. She said 1250 was very high however it could be due to other reasons than a flare such as something he ate. I asked is she could call in an order for another Fecal CalProtectin and she said that Dr. Kugathasan would have to do that. He would be in clinicals all day however would give him my message. We have seen THREE Pediatric GI’s in the SE and not very thrilled with any of them. We live in Columbia, SC so any referrals would be very appreciated. We are willing to travel up to three or four hours. So I am not closer to a game plan as I was Monday when I received the very alarming results. The Nurse did tell me they have never received incorrect labs on a fecalprotectin test previously. I am just waiting for a bomb to explode however at the moment Colin is feeling great.

My son's fecal calprotectin was 1700 back last year when the decision was made to add methotrexate, two months later it was down to 300, the next one was 48. When it was at 300 we had an MRE and scope both of which which didn't show severe inflammation He had taken a cough syrup with codeine and was severely constipated which led to a hospital stay and the tests. We just recently dropped MTX.

Have you thought about Vanderbilt? How far would that be for you? Sorry on my mobile so can't look it up bit there are a few parents on here that have gone there, I'll tag Dexy, I think he has experience with Vandy and his son.

Thanks for your response. I want the doctor to call in orders to re-run the test however I suspect the test is correct. If the results come back high again which I suspect they will my preference would be to do a pill cam test. He had this done previously (April 2012) and showed not inflammation in the small intestine. How is your son now? Do you use a Pediatric GI? What was your son's diagnosis? Thank you for your support

When my son had the high result it wasn't the worst he felt and it shocked us it was so high! C was dx'ed Feb. of last year and started Remi in May, his cd is located in his TI. I think you've already tried my son's group(CCDCH) but not the same doc as we have talked before when you were looking into fecal transplants, I think. We've been very pleased with C's GI, great turnaround time on calls and he has gone along with any labs I want repeated, stays on top of vitamin level testing and I love love his GI nurse because she let's me call about whatever crazy thing I want to report!hah

I completely understand where you are coming from, I think it is imperative to find a GI you can build a communicative, trusting relationship with! I hope you are able to find a good referral and that things improve soon!

Edit to add: we are in ATL getting his Remi now. Still no symptoms dropped MTX 3 weeks ago, fingers crossed he remains well.

Hi trichard
Just a quick question: if your son had clear biopsies and scopes and pill cam, how did they diagnose him? I've clear tests and raised calprotectin so just interested if they're missing it
Thanks,
Bear

When he was diagnosed in April of 2012 he had a flare that last about three week so the doctor requested a scope and there was alot of inflamation however his scope of June 2013 is clear however he has been on Remicade Infusion every eight weeks, takes VSL 3 DS daily and monthly FMT's.

Feeling very confused and scared. My ten year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's in March of 2011. He in on Remicade Infusions every eight weeks, Apriso and Probiotics daily. He is feeling great and his June 4th Scope of this year was CLEAR. Now the confusing part. We ordered a Cal Protecting Test Mid July and it came back 1250. Under 50 is normal. Three more Cal Protectin Test ordered and the results were 250, 233 and 350. (233 and 250) were within the same week. We received his Three Day Comprehensive Stool Results from Direct Labs today and his Lysozyme (792) and lactoferrin (186) levels were very high Need some advice and/or encouragement.
