Very concerned, my ten year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's and EoE in April of 2012. He did well until October of 2012, came down with C-Diff that trigggered a major Crohn's flare, eight days in the hospital and missed eight weeks of school. We elected to start Remicade Infusions every eight weeks due to fear of having to remove his colon. He is also is given daily VSL DS Sachets and Florastar. He had a scope at Emory June 4th of 2013 and his doctor was shocked the scope was clear and biospies came back clear however I requested a fecal calprotectin test and received the results on Monday and they are 1250!Update on very high Fecal Cal-Proctectin Results (Over 1250)
Since receiving the results on Monday July 29th I have made several contact attempts via email, fax and phone to Colin’s TWO Pediatric GI’s who are very well known and thought of in SC and GA. The Greenville’s nurses called us back yesterday and the doctor was on vacation until next week. The Emory nurse finally called this AM and said they are becoming part of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and are no longer allowed to communicate via email. She did not have an explanation as to why she had not returned my call from Tuesday. She said 1250 was very high however it could be due to other reasons than a flare such as something he ate. I asked is she could call in an order for another Fecal CalProtectin and she said that Dr. Kugathasan would have to do that. He would be in clinicals all day however would give him my message. We have seen THREE Pediatric GI’s in the SE and not very thrilled with any of them. We live in Columbia, SC so any referrals would be very appreciated. We are willing to travel up to three or four hours. So I am not closer to a game plan as I was Monday when I received the very alarming results. The Nurse did tell me they have never received incorrect labs on a fecalprotectin test previously. I am just waiting for a bomb to explode however at the moment Colin is feeling great.
