I have Crohn's and take Remicade and I want my first tattoo!! Someone told me to get online first because they heard there could be problems with metallic type inks? I know I will heal slowly and I am aware of the possibility of infections, I am already super careful about cleanliness, etc. Anyone know if it is safe? is there any reason why I cannot get a tattoo?

your best bet would be to talk to your GI or primary care MD.

If you do decide to get one, make sure it's at a reputable place because some of them don't sterilize their tools and that's where the risk of hepatitis comes in.

better safe than sorry. :)

I got my first one this nov and had no problems, but it's still a good idea to talk to your Dr.

Tattoos with Crohn's

I have a full sleeve of tattoos. Never have had any issues, talk to a reputable tattoo artist. No quality inks I've ever heard of contain metal. Hope this helps

I got a tattoo while on Azathioprine and Pentasa, just about two weeks before I began Remicade. There were no issues (and there haven't been any since starting Remicade).

I do agree with making sure you communicate with your medical team.

I was sure to tell my tattoo artist that I was on immune suppressing medictions. He said it was good to know but that it didn’t change their process because things should always be 100% sterile.
