I have a colonoscopy/upper endoscopy tomorrow(8/9) morning. Honestly my bowels weren't doing too great before, so I was almost cleared out.
The miralax/gatorade prep is making me throw up.
What I would like to know is if it's okay to stop drinking it if my stool is clear with no pieces? I'm really going to try my hardest to drink it all, but if I keep throwing up I may go to the ER.

My doctors nurse that's on call doesn't speak much English and doesn't really listen to what I say, so she just tells me I absolutely have to do everything how it's already been stated.

Is there anyone else involved with the practice that you can talk to? If not go to ER.

I've never managed to completely finish the prep and I've asked my dr afterwards if it was OK. He said as long as you're running clear it's fine.
The goal is not to finish the drink, it's to run clear. If you've managed that you're fine.

Try putting some ice it in it to get it cold. I find these things stay down better if they are good and cold.

Best wishes to you both.....you'll get through it.Like giving birth or bad toothache it's a relief when it's over, and becomes just a memory.

Is it supposed to hurt this bad? I just started my prep and the pain is unbelievable

Lauren

It shouldn't hurt unless you are getting a lot of cramping. When I drank the Magnesium Citrate I got horrible cramps/nausea/heartburn/vomiting. Since then I don't drink the Mg Citrate but only do Miralax/Ducolax combo prep.

Hi Ron
Last week with the prep, i felt like the Gatorade has trouble passing a cortinn
area. Kind of high up, I am having the same pain tonight,
I are an apple today and in my case an apple a day does not keep the
need for a Dr away. I may be crazy but it does feel like a
slight- if there is such a thing- swelling in that area making things painful.

My colonoscopy was "normal" biopsies are still "pending" .

Lauren, I hope you feel better soon.

I don't have Crohn's so take this with a grain of salt, but I dislike the way the prep for colonoscopies effect me so much, I fast for a day instead, then give myself an enema and I was totally clean for the colonoscopy.

I had my second colonoscopy on Monday and I decided to get up early and drink less of the movieprep. The main thing is to be 'running clear' I'd say I drank about 60% of it and I was running clear. If I wasn't I still allowed myself plenty of time to drink more!

It said on my report afterwards that my prep was good, so I don't think it is problem when you can't finish drinking it

I wish I had done the same. MoviPrep was the worst tasting stuff I've ever had and I kept drinking it even though everything was clear. Since it was the first time I had a colonoscopy, I followed all the directions thinking it was absolutely necessary. Now, I know better. :)

I recommend starting with a stool softener next time. My doc has me start with dulcolax. It made everything go through easier

I took 4 Dulcolax two hours before starting my prep. It was a rough night and I am glad its over!

Lauren

Dulcolax is awful, awful stuff. I remember taking it when I was constipated a couple years ago and I had the WORST cramps in my entire life - even worse than during my period. I had taken it before but never felt that way - I was even feeling as though I may faint. I will never take it again. I prefer something like a stool softener because it's much more gentle.
