I have not been diagnosed yet but i am very curious if anyone had normal bm's cause it seems like i go days and days with diarrhea sometimes up to 15 times a day then all of a sudden i will have one or two normal bm's then it will go right back to diarrhea...Is that a common crohn's symptom?? I have a colonoscopy tuesday and i just did my stool sample and i am upset about my stool sample cause it was a normal bm and that hardly ever happens and i was thinking maybe i should of waited till i had diarrhea cause i know it won't be long. I am just all over the place with it right now and i am nervous about my colonoscopy cause i heard you fart really bad afterwards which is fine but i mean your right in front of everybody that might be embarrassing lol!! I am just nervous i think!

I can't comment on the normal bm's cause my case was different, but as for colonoscopies...yes, you can fart afterward. During my first one, I was so ill, that farting wasn't an option because it came with d and it hurt. But my last 2 colonoscopies, i did fart and it actually felt good because of the air trapped inside.

you do fart because your stomach gets pumped full of gas xD don't feel embarassed - the people that work there are used to it and its just gas...if you don't let it out it can cause shoulder tip pain (and that really hurts trust me). Don't worry about your stool sample - what will be will be.
I hope you find all the answers you are looking for!
all the best,
~kat

Calmygal: I experience the same thing - I'll have a normal poo, then diarrhea 10 times, then randomly another normal poo with diarrhea right behind it again. I have no idea why! But you're definitely not alone there. What did they test your stool for? When I first got ill, they took a bunch of stool samples for tests too (testing me for various bacteria & parasites), and although I was having diarrhea at the time, the tests all came back normal. So don't worry too much that you had a solid poo for your stool tests, in my experience it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the results.

I haven't had a normal BM in about two years. However before that it would go back and forth. The farts that you let after your colonoscopy is the air that they pump you full of...so in my opinion not really farts just getting rid of what they gave you. If you don't it will hurt and baddddd! So fart away.

At my old Dr office they would leave a little tube in to release the excess air.....so no explosive fart sounds lol.....at my current Dr, she gets as much air out as possible, not sure if I ever had to really let loose after the procedure...hmm...will have to try to remember next time!

cat i know she told me all the things she was testing for but she gave me so much information that i can't remember right this second i want to say she said she wanted to rule everything else out like what you said but i am not positive, i know we are testing for crohn's and celiac and we did all the blood work but for some reason i am going blank on the stool. I have to go drop it off today YAY! I hope i get some answers i am really scared its all gonna come back normal and then i am just going to be wondering why like many other people here. And i know i am def scared of the colonoscopy prep and after and everything lol!! Thanks for your words everyone it means a lot!!!

Do you know which prep you will have? I currently use the miralax one - and it is SO MUCH better than the go-lytely.....I've also heard the Movi-prep is better - but haven't had that one.

yes i have to take 4 dulcolax tablets and then mix miralax with gatorade. Is the miralax liquid or powder thought i heard someone say its powder just wondering and what flavor gatorade to you think works best to overpower the miralax any information would be great!! Also how long after you drank this did it take you to start running lol!! I have a 2 yr old have to make sure i plan accordingly lol!!

I used Gatorage Ice when it was available - remember NO RED liquid as it may dye your intestines!.....

You can also use Crystal Light - I think I am going to try to lemonade one....

The Miralax is a powder, it has some flavor but not a whole lot - I think with me the 'salt' of the gatorade is what got to me after a while - I don't like gatorade to begin with because of that taste.....

As far as how long it took - I think within the hour - I would start to get the gurgly belly lol....

Oh - and I also don't eat heavy meals for a day or two before the prep day - just to make things a little easier on me....and when the output is basically clear I stop drinking the mix - I know I am supposed to finish it - but if everything is out...well.....and my Doc hasn't said anything about not being cleaned out!

You generally start the prep the afternoon/evening before - I am usually able to get to sleep around 10pm or so.....

When is yours scheduled for? I generally try to schedule for a Friday morning (earlier the better) appointment - then I have the weekend to 'recover' Although I usually feel pretty fine the next day).....and early in the am so I don't get delayed by emergencies etc....

Oh - and at least at my Doc office - the show-up time is an hour before the procedure time - to allow for changing, getting the IV started, medical history etc etc etc.....

Where are you getting yours done?

There are also pills available - Osmoprep. That's what my doc gave me. Although they are by Rx only so probably can't get them at this point on a Friday afternoon. I would think the only thing that sucks about the pills is that you have to take them all and you just goooooo on and on and on...I think I went to sleep around 11:30 but still had a few times where I had to jump out of bed during the wee hours. I was still having a little bit of output that morning even. Whereas with the liquid, once your output is clear and yellow, you can stop drinking it from what others have said. I dunno, pick your poison perhaps...
Good luck with your scope though! Hope you get some answers.

Moviprep is a lot easier to handle but you can only get it with a prescription and with my insurance it cost 45.00 and name brands which are teir 3 should only be 40 so it cost more than my normal copay. It was 2 quarts instead of the whole gallon.

i have to take 4 dulcolax tablex at 2pm then 64oz of gatorade mixed with miralax starting at 4pm then every 15mins. Thanks for all the luck and comments everyone!!

Moviprep is a good prep???? That stuff is disgusting! I had to give up on my 7th glass (after drinking 1.5 litres) because I physically couldn't swallow any more. Everytime I tried I gagged and brought it back up.

How much is 64 ounces?

Hi cal! I think I missed your intro somewhere, so welcome!

Two things: #1 regarding your BMs: maybe over the next while (if you are not already) keep a very strict food diary... it is time consuming, but it may give you an idea as to what you are eating that may help keep the looser movements at bay! That being said, it might be nothing, could just be how your bowels work, and that's the life of a CD atient...lol.

#2 As far as the "farts" after the scope...like others have said (but I am not sure if it was made clear) is that because it is just air pumped into you, it doesn't have time to sit and "ferment" like actual farts do (unless you are REALLY sick, then like someone else said, sometimes other stuff comes with it, but if the prep works and you are really clean inside, this chance decreases.). As for everyone around you, the

y are either staff how have seen/heard it all before, or patients who could care less at the moment because they are as dopey as you are at the time, and they are probably "farting" right along with you!! LOL!

Don't worry about being embarrassed your first time... I think we all were... but by the 10th or 20th time you've had one, you'll be a pro!! LOL!!

Wishing you all the best (personally, I think the prep is the worst part of the whole thing...lol).

Thanks you guys really do help on rough days because i had a real rough one not only with my issues but with other things in my life seems like when you have things going on other people just need to make it 10 times worse!! So i had me some crying today because someone i thought was my friend for a long time was the meanest i think someone could be to me and broadcasted it all over facebook lol nice huh!! And we are almost 30 i thought we were a little old for this but i guess not but it was her words that were hurtful. So its nice to come over to this page and see such nice words of encouragement cause thats what i need right now! As for my prep in just a couple days not looking forward to it lol!! And the colonoscopy idk how i feel about that at the moment i guess i will let you know when its over. Thanks again for your comments they are so much help!
