on one of the many food panels i did it says i have a SEVERE candida issue... is that a crohns thing or a just me thing lol

I think it is part of the disease, but many people without the disease also have this problem. It may be related to both the typical medications used for Crohn's and the fact our immune system does not work correctly.

About the only long term way to deal with it is to change your diet, to little sugar, starches or grain type carbohydrates.

Non starchy vegetables are fine, and any protein that does not involve the above.

I eat a high protein diet, just because I do not do well on lots of carbs and starches. By chance it prevents fungal problems, but I did not eat that way for that reason. Maybe it is why I felt better eating that way though?

its so hard for me to figure out what diet i should be on since i dont have a normal reaction to food... i dont have to run to the bathroom if i eat something that i shouldnt eat.. its frustrating!

Our immune system sucks, so candida just takes advantage of it. Stop having bread for a while and you should get back on track. It's easier than it sounds.

lol..Im not so sure if its easier than it sounds. If you do some research you will find candida has some serious consequences. It can go from oral to your throat to intestines to organs to blood and then that is seriously difficult to treat if not impossible; especially with someone with a compromised immune system. Candida is really resistent to treatment as I have been finding out. I have had 4 bottles of nystatin and difulcan. I have a chest x-ray to have done to see if it is in my lungs (Pulmonary candidiasis). To be honest the thought scares the hell out of me as there is a high correlation between candida and cancer.

The diet I have been given is:
eliminate cows milk (has antibiotics in it), cheese, yoghurt, whey and all cow's milk derivatives which are everywhere in processed foods.
yeast products : alcohol, bread, marmite, oxo, bovril, vinegars, mushrooms, processed and smoked fish and meats.
all sugar products: honey, fruitcose, lactose, glucose, dextrose, and sweetners like nutrisweet and canderel.
nearly all fruit: over ripe fruit are full of sugars and yeasts. plus veggies like courgettes, pumpkin, squash marrow.
high sugar root vegetables: carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, beetroots, (max. 1 potato per day)
high glycaemic foods - refined wheat, pasta, rice, fizzy pop, fruit juices and squash, biscuits, pastries, pies and corn
all processed meats, high salt foods and hydrogenated vegetable oils.

Good food choices:

Stevia (a herb 100 times sweeter than sugar but natural anti-fungal agent.
astragalus and echinacea plus 1 gm vitamin C
alfalfa sprouts, bean sprouts, bell peppers, Bok choy, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, couliflower, celery, cucumber, endive, fennel, garlic, green beans, hot chilli peppers, kale, lettuce, onions, parsley, radishes, spring onions, spinach, swiss chard, turnips, yellow beans

Fats in moderation...etc...etc... heres the link....

Im not saying this is for everyone but a lot of you know my struggle with candida. My next step will be IV drugs to treat it. I am also concerned about my chest x-ray to see if it has effected my heart or lungs. A lot of this info is what is on a lot of peoples posts already. I tried the basic candida diet and it did not work (sugar, bread, rice, etc).

This is also confusing for me too as there are soo many brands of vitamins out there - difficult to know which one is good, how much and will it interact with my meds?? I also read a lot of journals the last little while regarding candida and I have gone through my cupboards and fridge and will be giving most of it away.
I'm with Dan, the diet is probably the way to go but if it has progressed and overgrew in your mouth, esophagus, intestines, etc.... it may be impossible to get rid of (it becomes resistant to the medication).
I'm going to be drinking my meals for awhile I think. Ahhh..where to begin...

white and bumpy...

Hi Coley,
Sorry to hear that you are suffering.
I had a tough time getting my candida to calm down.
My tongue was white and nasty to look at, and at times I could not taste anything at all, even an extra garlic dill pickle.
I think it was all the immune suppressing drugs I was on that let my system get so far out of balance.
It persisted for many months.

Like Keona, I took Diflucan mouth swish and Nystatin.
It did not seem to respond quickly.
When it finally calmed down, I was at a loss to explain why.(?)

I have read on this forum that alcohol and sugar make it worse.
Well, I have a sweettooth, and also was gargling Listerine like crazy.
So, I was contributing to my own troubles.
My research suggested that besides unpleasant, it can also become quite serious.
I felt panicky that it just would not give me a break.

Mine has been back in balance for a while, but I am still paranoid and check my tongue more often than I'd like to admit.

Hope you get some relief soon,
hang in there,
Walt

Not just you. My meds contribute significantly. I up the pre and pro biotics and treat them like prednisone, high doses and tapering down for six weeks, seems to keep it in check. I LOVE choc so it is a maintainance thing for me. Ive given up so much I havent the heart to lose the choc too. Yet. Pain is a terrific motivator, tho ;)

how accurate are the blood panel for the candida... i just did the normal food lab to see what foods i would react to and candida showed up i have extreme fatigue headaches dizzyness acne blah blah but i cant tell if its the crohns the candida or something else!

If the blood came back as candida than you have candida. I think you have to worry if it is the other way around because it is difficult to detect/diagnose. It is a good sign if your tongue is covered in white stuff and painful lesions underneath however, it could be something else as well apparently.
Do a google search on Candida albicans symptoms and you will find it includes a lot of symptoms...

What are your symptoms? I.e: white tongue..etc... If you have severe candida then you might want to do some research on it.

Like Walt mentioned, people on steroids typically get it (incl. inhalers). Also, those with dentures, cancer treatments, diabetes, extreme stress, those taking a lot of antibiotics, birth control, pregnant women, HIV/AIDS, etc. It's not usually dangerous but is usually difficult to get rid of and typically more serious with those who have compromised immune systems. In all honesty, for me it was just a nuisance until I started to bring up white things - then I got panicky and learned all about it.
If you are wondering what those symptoms are, regardless..you need to get the candida in check before it gets worse. Did they give you anything for it?
