chicken in spicey sauce with chips and gravy

ummmm,

even if you can handle chicken in spicey sauce with chips and gravy once every month, dont get excited and think you can have it every day, no matter how tastey it is!

I did last week, paying the price at the moment! LOL

had it last monday, and i was fine, so i thought i'd nip down to the food shop and get it again tuesday, then wednesday.....

wednesday night..... cramp and pain time!
:ybatty:
oopsie, i cant blame crohns for this one.

naughty jed!

only just starting to eat solids again last night, so far so good:)

Yeah... don't ever eat and Itailian Sub and follow it with Taco Bell dinner... I made that mistake last summer.

BADDD BADD mistake... and I was even in remission on Remicade at that point... BADDD

ha! will keep that one in mind!

is there an official "things i'd really like to eat" thread around here?

(waaaaaah, lady next to me at work is currently eating a lamb yiro, with extra garlic sauce...... droooling!)

Don't eat red meat three times as meals and then more meat for a snack. I did this once ended up eating about five serving of meat in a day and got really constipated afterwards. Oh man I'm getting hungry and I can't eat much right now.

i've tried to satisfy myself (food wise) with mushy tuna sandwich, not hungry anymore, but damn it was boring.......

I really MISS "REAL" food. Understand the lure of it all tooooo wellll. I have even given into temptation a time or two myself... AND paid the price on more than one occasion. So, my sympathies...

But, if your'e tempted, but want to try to avoid those nasty consequences, you could try to make it yourself, only friendlier to your condition. Like, I eat a lot of chicken (hi protein diet I was put on).. but I'm restricted to skinless N boneless to reduce fat, AND I only eat it barbequed, or baked/grilled/roasted over a drip pan (was a time when it was all boiled... you don't want to EVER go that way)
Fries/chips are off my list too... but I take potatoes, wedge them, and grill them in the oven.. They actually taste pretty good, once you get the hang of it. And I can make a low fat gravy... As for the spices... there are some that are good for us... like ginger, turmeric, etc.. so, if you experiment, you may come up with a combo that tastes pretty passable AND is safe for your digestive system, OK?

As I'm being fed through an IV right now, I wouldn't be able to tell what foods are good and which aren't. But, 8 months after my resection surgery i became a vegetarian (for reasons of principle, nothing to do with Crohns) and was in remission for 12 years. Always wondered whether there was a connection.... During those years remission i could really eat everything apart from Indian food (which i would occasionally eat and pay the price, no pain, but definitely the D).
After I have my surgery this time (probably wont haven eaten anything solid for at least 3 months) I will want to eat boiled new potatoes, white asparagus, hardboiled eggs and smoked salmon (have been a 'pescatarian' for about 3 years now) and strawberries and cream for dessert. This is a traditional spring dish in The Netherlands, and i daydream about it :)

Yeah I believe in making things I like but healthier, or better for Crohn's then other foods. Instead of french fries I cut red potatoes into very thin slices and pan fry them in a little bit of olive oil, garlic, basil and oregeno. I have never had a problem eating it this way and I get healthy fats. Also, chicken with homemade rubs, watch the salt, are also very good for me. I'm not saying this will work for anyone else but I just wanted to offer my opinion and an idea about making healthier versions of food you like but can't have.

Well, two people have mentioned french fries in this thread so I'll put in my 2 cents worth. I cut potatoes into thin strips, coat them with egg whites and then bake them in the oven. They get a little crispier than baked plain, and you can season them however you want.

Hehe.. I believe there is a thread exactly like that in the Food and Diet forum.. something along the lines are "Why are the tastiest foods always the worst for us?" ^^

One of my worst vices is Oriental food - and, even worse - we have got the best Oriental restaurant I have ever been to, literally 10 minutes from where I live.

Most of the food is actually fine and I can stomach it (salt and garlic chicken! mmm...) but, the problem is, you can pay one price for an all you can eat, and you just order from the HUGE variety of food on the all you can eat menu, which they do up for you freshly, and oh SO easy to overindulge. It's fine if you go careful, but so difficult to restrain oneself! Ouch...!
