I am convinced that I have a chronic infection and the way i see it is either candida or M.A.P (mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis).

I asked my specialist about candida and he said i definetely didnt have a candida infection though im not sure whether to believe him mainly due to the itching i get aswell as many other things that dont seem to add up.

The more likely however is a M.A.P infection. There seems to be alot of evidence on the internet about m.a.p causing crohns and even saw one video that said m.a.p had been proven as a cause of crohns.

here is that video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crm4pKz6X2M
(watch all parts)

and heres other vids on crohns and map by the main guy on it:

I also have read a lot about H. pylori which when we used to live in England my dad got treated for h.pylori due to luck of getting on a trial and it cured his indigestion, heartburn and bloating.

I am also interested in e coli as a possibility but don't know much about it.

I got crohn's recently after using a lot of antibiotics as i think is the case for many others.

Thoughts on these and any other possibilities for a chronic infection?

There are many sites that say a lot about candida, and how it can affect our bowels. Thing is, when I tried a candida diet last year, and wasn't taking anything for the crohns, I got really ill. Though with candida, this can be completely normal, but back in hospital, I was back on cortisone then prednisalone, which causes candida to thrive. I'm still on prednisalone, and another imunesuppresant, and candida thrives and flares on these, and I'm still thinking that it has a lot to do with bowel diseases. Bacterial overgrowth is so common, but most of us with crohns, are on low residue diets, which bacteria also thrives on. You can do a candida test, I was diagnosed by my gp with it, because of my tongue being white, but most bacterial overgrowth is in our intestines ect, that's where candida starts. It comes with so many symptoms, and if your convinced you have a bacterial problem, beginning some good probiotics, and vitamins such as fish oil, may help. If you have severe symptoms, then there's the scd diet in the diet and fitness subforum that you could look at. Let me know if you begin the scd, or if any particular probiotics, or threelak or something, gives you great improvement, as I would like to be on the scd diet within a few months, and haunt tried threelak yet, and would love to hear about any other great supplements or vitamins which help with candida/bacteria. Best wishes xoxo

Honestly I am not really convinced that candida is the widespread problem people put it out as being. But, that doesn't mean some people won't have a problem with it of course. A no sugar and no carbs diet is a common suggestion for candida treament. Also caprylic acid or coconut. Probiotics too. These things would work for SIBO too.

Mastic gum is a good way to go for H.Pylori. It is fairly cheap and natural. Also no drinking to help your stomach heal.

I watched a few of the video episodes and it is interesting. One thing stuck me as odd though. If I remember right, he said they found MAP in 3 Crohn's patients. Then they went running around for a year or 2 gathering water samples. Seems odd to only get positive results on 3 people and then spend all that time testing water. Or did they test a lot more than 3 people and most did not show MAP but only 3 did? Maybe I got the story wrong, but it just strikes me as odd. It does seem like something that should be studied more for sure.

What are you symptoms? Since you've used a lot of antibiotics... have you been tested for c-dificile? ( known as c-diff)

Definitely need more information on what's going on. As a side note though, if you feel your doctor isn't taking you seriously then perhaps you could take your issue to another doctor and get their opinion. Sometimes your GP may be able to help you or a second opinion from another specialist.

sorry if i wasn't clear but i have been diagnosed with crohn's and had it for 5 years now but i'm convinced that problems are due to a chronic infection. i dont have c-diff.
