Cimzia and Pregnancy

Has anyone taken Cimzia while pregnant? I am on cimzia injections and will soon want to start a family. I have a doctors apt to talk to him about it. Any suggestions?

Hi jbmann33, I can't speak specifically to Cimzia and pregnancy, but I just had a baby and took Remicade throughout my pregnancy. I believe Cimzia and Remicade are very similar as they are both biologics. Cimzia is also classified as an FDA pregnancy category B and not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Given the FDA category and my experience with Remicade and pregnancy, I'd feel comfortable continuing the Cimzia during pregnancy. I'd be interested to hear from someone who has taken it during pregnancy though!

I am also hoping to start a family soon and have just started on cimzia. Im also still on Lialda but as soon as my doc weans me off of that me and my husband are going to try to concieve. My doctor chose cimzia for me knowing I wanted to become pregnant. He said it has a molecule attached to it that keeps it from crossing the placenta. I have read though that it is not safe to breast feed while on cimzia.

I just spoke to my doctor about this and Cimzia is "very" safe to take during pregnancy..."better than Remicade because Remicade can cross the placenta but Cimzia", the size of the meicine in the system is what accounts for this. Remicade is smaller structure so is crosses and Cimzia is bigger so it doesn't. I also took Remicade for both my other pregnancy but was asking her about if I wanted a 3rd what "we" would need to do and this was her answer.
