Cimzia injections-1st time doing it myself EEK!!!!

I've been on Cimzia for over a year now. I did my injections once or twice last year but have since counted on my awesome husband to do them for me. Something about how sweet he is when he says "just a little pinch, hun" that always put me at ease. Well, fast forward to today. I'm fighting with myself over doing it alone. He is in Afghanistan...he left last month one day after doing my shots for the last time. THIS SUCKS!!!! I'm sitting here talking myself up, telling myself how strong I am and how I can do this. Ugh, it's not working. I know it's mental because the shots don't hurt but GEEEEZZZZ.

So I got to thinking, there must be a lot of people who give themselves the injections. It's really quite easy....RIGHT???!? Any tips you guys can give me to be strong and do this? I'm just being a wimp, aren't I?

He served in the US Marine Corps for 27 years. He now works as a consultant for the Marine Corps. We are hoping he can land a job in Kuwait or UAE so I can go over and live with him. I love it over there so it wouldn't hurt my feelings

Do you have a neighbor, or friend, you can call over to do it for you ?
My neighbor comes over to me to inject her birth control for her every 3 months. We crack up laughing the entire time, but she's like you and way too nervous to do it herself...and I don't mind doing it a bit.

Yeah, my friend's husband said he'd do it for me. I even have an extra injection that he can use to practice with first. The thing is, I'm so stubborn and independant that I don't want to count on anyone else. I need to get over that though, or just get a grip and do it myself. I can do this, and I will.

Ah hell be independent and take over the family finances or something...and let someone help ya and have a good laugh! The end result is all that matters...getting the medication in you :ylol::ylol:

Seriously though, take a deep breath and good luck! We go on the 13th to start my daughters injections and I'm sure it will take her a few times before she will do it herself. I have no problems doing it for her; however, she wants to go off to college in the fall so she will not have a choice then.
Knowing her she will ask me to come visit for a "lunch date"once a month :lol2:

You can do it! The first time I had to do my injections myself I called my uncle (a doctor) and had him on speaker to give me a pep talk while I was prepping everything. The'd he'd count "1....2....3" and I'd always say "Wait!" and we'd go through it again. I finally sucked it up after about 10 minutes and did it. I got myself so worked up that I actually had to lay myself down on the floor after it was over...which was so silly because it didn't even hurt! Now I barely even think about it....just prep the area, get the syringe ready, inject, and done. Then I eat a cookie to reward myself for being a good girl. (I'm fresh out of lollipops.)

Once you get over the initial nervousness, it gets wayyy easier....and I'm one of those people who HATES needles! I always have to look away when they draw blood or put an IV in. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can!

When the pharmacy accidentally switched me from pens to syringes (best mistake that ever happened to me!) I totally freaked out over giving myself the injection too. What helped me in the end was going on Youtube and watching videos of people doing it... I am fortunately not afraid of needles at all, and I watched videos of people who ARE doing it and felt like that must mean I can do it. Also videos of people who are totally nonchalant about it. Just inject, meh, done.

Now it's not a big deal at all. The thing that made the biggest difference for me is I just can't do the "quick, dart like motion." I think it hurts more but I push the needle in slowly. I guess technically that is the "wrong" way to do it, but it gets the job done.

It's not that bad. I don't know how I managed to get myself so worked up over it but YAYAYAYAYAAYYYYYYYYYYYY, I did it! It's definitely the actual act of inserting the needle in the skin that is so friggin' hard on the mind.

One month down, 11 more to go.......

I need a glass of wine now. I think that'll be my treat since I have no lollipops either.

I completely understand where you're coming from with this and am so proud of you for getting it done.

I was on B12 shots years ago and was able to inject myself without issue.

This past year I went on Humira (pens) and B12 (syringes). My amazing husband handles the Humira without issue even though he has a serious needle phobia.

It's the B12 that's been the issue. His needle issues have made my needle issues much worse. I set him up with a syringe, a cup of water and an orange to practice on. He put blue food coloring in the water and had more fun playing, then let it sit a day or two before peeling it to see what it looked like inside. Didn't really help him get over his syringe issues.

I have a friend who was in vet school (and also has very serious health issues of her own and bigger needle issues than Stacy and I combined) who deiced that if she could draw blood from a cow's neck that she could give my my B12 shots. We have a lot of fun and she's always up for giving my shots.

I really don't know what I'd do without people here to help with the needle issues, so you get HUGE props in my book for stepping up and handling it. Very impressed!
