Has anyone taken Cipro at some point in time for Crohns Disease? I keep getting these strange fevers and My doctor wants me to take Cipro along with my other medications for any infection that my Flagyl isn't handling. My concern with this is i've had c-diff in the past and I know Cipro can cause c-diff. Has anyone had luck with Cipro?

Yes I have! I live on it and Flagyl. C diff is usually from Flagyl but at any rate stay away from clinics and hospitals they are usually culprits. How much cipro are you taking and for how long? I got fevers too, your body is trying to fight off infection. Just avoid taking dairy or calcium 6 hours before, it cancels it out. Flagyl ...never drink a drop of alcohol in it, you will be really sick. Hope this helps.

I had two short courses of the Cipro/Flagyl combo and they helped heal an intestinal abscess and fistula.

I remember when I got c-diff for the first time back in 09, they treated it with Flagyl and it worked really well. I read online that Cipro can cause Pseudomembranous Colitis (C-diff in otherwords). It has me freaking out! Last thing I want is Crohns symptoms and c-diff! My dosage for Cipro is 500mg for 5 days. It's not long, he wants to see what this will do with my unexplained fevers.

I have been on Cipro a number of times. I don't think it does anything for me. What is C Diff? I know they tested me for it but no clue.

C-diff ( short for Chlosteridium Difficle) is a bad bacteria infection inside the intestines that kills off the normal flora and over populates. It causes severe diarrhea, abdominal bloating, gas, blood, mucus, fever, loss of appetite, weight loss and a sudden sharp urge to go. It usually is treated with Flagyl, but for some it has a resistance to it so they treat it with Vancomycin. If those fail, then there is something new that they are doing called Stool Transfers. It's a nasty bug.
