Coccyx pain

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

My daughter does, it was one of the first signs of Ankylosing spondylitis (my husband has it too though so we knew she was at risk for it). She had knee pain (at age 8), then coccyx pain (age 11) and then sacroiliac joint pain (age 11). She was diagnosed with spondyloarthropathy and much more recently AS.

DS has been followed by a Rheumo
For various joint pains including knee
Hip and low back
He added hands in the past few months
The coccyx pain is just strange
Hoping we are not adding another thing to the list

Hope it's not AS… it's no fun.The joint pain never goes away, even on Remicade. She did really well on Humira, but isn't doing as well on Remicade.
She also has pain in her hands and hips. Has your son ever had an MRI of his lower back?

Heat helps her lower back pain a little. Perhaps your son could try lying on a heating pad for a while?

He isn't getting a pilonidal cyst is he? It is a cyst in the pilonidal dimple (so it may not be visible) that I think generally requires surgery to remove. I had it at about 18 years old. My dad has it at the same age. So when I called home from college saying my tailbone was killing me, he knew just what to look for. I was in surgery the next week.

^^ Yes, son of a friend of mine had the same thing (or something that sounds very similar).

MLP, Stephen had backaches months before his diagnosis. Pain moved around his back - from lower back to upper, one side... While it did start with a sports injury, it lasted for months and months. After being diagnosed, spoke with GI about S's constant ibuprofen use and GI said it was possible the ibuprofens triggered the crohns BUT it was also just as possible that the back ache, regardless of the original injury, was the result of referred pain/inflammation due to his onset of crohns.

Is it possible that he still has intestinal inflammation and it is causing the back ache?

Whatever the cause of S's back ache, he found that Tiger Balm ointment was a big help (do NOT use a heating pad with it!!! And do NOT apply after a hot shower/bath!) and massage also helped him quite a bit.

:ghug:

Thanks Tess
He just had a scoped :pillcam end of August
Minimal inflammation(duodendum ) on the biopsies .
He has lots of extra inflammation and other stuff else where so probably more than crohn's going on per his Docs.
The pain was slightly better this am and gone this evening but switched to generic low back pain.
So who knows ...

Anymore information MLP?

Johnny has had lower back pain the last week. Right at the tailbone on the right side. I don't know if it's from sledding or basketball or his backpack that weighs 50lbs. but I can hardly take yet another issue. Does it ever end??

His pain makes him stiff in the morning. Better once he stretches it out. Tylenol helps, icy hot helps. He does heat and ice and the ice seems to help more than the heat. Playing basketball does make it worse. He was pulled out of his last game for not diving on the floor for a loose ball. He told me after he knew he would not have gotten back up if he dove for it, it would have hurt his back too much. He didn't want to tell the coach, he was afraid he wouldn't play him. :(

Wondering if we should talk to the GI about another referral? Sounds like the usual is 3 months of pain before they get concerned? Has your GI advised you?

Still trying to work out the blood in the urine too.:ybatty:

Big ((((Hugs)))) I feel your pain. Just want the ride to end now please.

Rhuemo is a good member to have as part of the team DS has been followed for over a year.
Joint and muscle pain without damage to the joints can occur with crohn's .
Or you can get arthitis as a seperate autoimmune disease in addition to crohn's.
The three month thing is for the arthritis .

I would call a Rheumo
Morning stiffness that gets better with activity is a red flag .
DS has lots of joint issues .
Some come and go while others are daily and independent of his crohn's activity .
The Rheumo can help with meds and physical therapy exercises to decrease pain and stiffness.

Good luck
