Colonoscopy found results yet MRI found nothing?

Hi guys,

Hoping someone might be able to help. I had a colonoscopy about a month and a half 2 months ago and they found severe inflammation and ulcers. Lots of biopsies were taken.

I've also had stools samples handed in that had high something or another found.

I was then referred for an MRI which I just had last week. I got a letter from the DR today saying they found minimal inflammation and all looked good. But they have referred me on to a specialist to discuss.

Since my colonoscopy and finding out I potentially might have Crohn's after the discussion with the doctor I cut out all the bad "activator foods" like caffeine and started taking good yoghurt and fish oil etc.

Could you still have Crohn's if the MRI didn't really find anything or do you think I am in the clear?

I know I stared drinking coffee latley and it's made me run with sore stomach again. Maybe I am a hypocondriact but I'm always tired, have low iron levels and issues with the bathroom.

I would be happy to hear I'm perfectly healthy and I'm in the clear but then again I don't think it is "all" in my head. Any thoughts?

Mre just looks at the small intestine - the part they can't see on a colonscopy.
So if the colonscopy looked bad then the disease would be mainly in the large bowel and terminal illuem . If the colonscopy was clean but the mre looked bad then the disease would be in just the small intestine.
Crohns skips around so you can have it in multiple parts of the intestine and not other parts

Ah ok. I just can't wait to speak to the doctor about it to find out what they think and what steps to start taking if any.

Would be almost a relief it is Crohn's that way I know what it is and it's not all me over reacting and can get better. But then again if it isn't then that would b good news too. I can't help it I'm of two minds!

It depends on where the MRI imaging was focused as a previous post noted. Also, while MRI is fantastic the colonoscope gets right in there and you can't be more accurate than that. Good luck.

I would agree with Mr chicken. Since you already had the colonscope and they followed up with MRI, the MRI was probably focused on the small bowel. An MRI of the colon would be redundant unless they were looking for abscesses or fistulas. It seems more likely the MRI was to check the small bowel for thickening (sign of inflammation )since they found inflammatory signs in the colon.

I believe it's based on what the doctor looks for- though it didn't matter for me in the slightest. (They got the wrong area) It could also be the fact while it looks worse when looking on the inside, it's not on the outside. I had tests done on me like that, ended up with severe colitis but the tests didn't show it. Though, a ct scan did.
