I'm having a colonoscopy with pathological study on Friday and I'm so freaked out! It's not my first; actually I've had 5 others, but I've had so much pain and such bad experiences with them, except when under a general, that I literally start shaking when I go in the procedure room. Should I talk to the doctor about how scared I am? I don't want to sound like a big baby here on the forum; you guys have been through way more than I have. :(

On top of that, even though I'm trying to be positive, I'm really scared the doctor will find colon cancer again. Even though I got the all-clear January 2010 I still feel like it's this monster lurking in the background just waiting for the right time to strike again. I feel like I'll never really be well as long as the threat is still there.

Thanks for listening, guys, just needed to vent...I really need to get a handle on this.

Definately talk to the doctor, he may agree to do it under general, or at least give you max doses of painkillers and sedation. Or even try a different drug. Good luck!

Jeannette - I agree with Rebecca, speak to your doctor. There's no reason for you to suffer so needlessly. In addition to the possibility of a general, maybe they prescribe some mild sedation to take the morning of the procedure before leaving home, to ease your anxiety.

Best of luck and be sure to let us know how it goes!

Jeannette,
Good luck with the procedure. I've had 3 colonoscopies and all 3 times, I was put out with a general. Tell your doctor what you need and want. If it is at if possible talk to him before Friday, the day of procedure. In the Endoscopy Center I went to, they need to know ahead of time to schedule an anesthesiologist to be there.

I'll be thinking about you on Friday!

Ann

I agree with the others talk to your doc so your not so stressed, no sense in adding to the trauma of the procedure. I feel like i have had so many my butt whistles when i touch my toes

Good luck and hope all goes well, will be thinking of ya.

LOL @ Jerman-thanks I needed tostart off the day with a good laugh!

Thanks everybody for the suggestions and support!

Well I called the doctor and he plans on using anethesia so I imagine it will be alot less traumatic and painful. Has anyone else been under anethesia for a colonoscopy?

Yes, and it worked wonderfully. As far as I am concerned, they can't give me enough drugs when I go to "that place!" I hate "that place" and will do pretty much anything to avoid it, but when we need to go we go, and drugs are your friend. Always remember that. This one thing you don't need to "man up" about.

:goodluck:

Good Luck Jeanette!
Hopefully they'll give you some pre-med, and you'll be tripping all the way to theatre!

When I have had the colonoscopy done they use the same drug that basically killed Micheal Jackson, Propofol. It completely knocks you out and then, when the procedure is done, they inject you with another drug and boom, no recovery you are back amongst conscious. It is completely safe when used correctly and by trained professionals.
I would definitely talk with the doctor there is absolutely no need for you to be as anxious as this at all for this procedure, other than being anxious of the results (anyone can understand that one).

I had both mine under general, it was amazing!!
Good luck Jeanette! Holding thumbs for some positive results!

Update...well Dras you are so right-it was a piece of cake...hardest part was the prep. The doctor gave me Propofol (the same stuff that they gave Michael Jackson) and I knocked out almost immediately. When I opened my eyes, I didn't realize they had even started the colonoscopy, let alone finished it!

My colon was free of active inflammation from Crohn's, but unfortunately there was another growth in the sigmoid, so we'll just wait for the biopsy to come back.:eek2:

Hey Mountain Gem, glad it went well and hoping that you get good news from the biosipy. hang in there pal!

Sending positive thoughts your way, Jeannette. So relieved for you that you got to have general anaesthetic this time, and that you woke up feeling just fine.

Yay for no inflammation, but i'm sorry to hear about the growth.

Good luck and try not to stress too much about it, (i know, easier said than done)

Hang in there!!

Update-Got Biopsy Results Back!

:applause:NO cancer cells-YAY!!!!!!!Thank God, I'm just sitting here in tears...I thought I was putting in out of my mind, but I guess I just held it all in...
