So I had a scope done on Monday. My GI preformed it, and wanted a follow-up today. So I did just that. He said there was inflammation, ulceration, and I've already been on weekly Humira (raised from every second week) for 5 weeks, and 5mg pred for a long time. This is all post-op by the way. LAst year (see sig), I had surgery. So after sitting in his office watching him hum and haw, tapping his fingers and feet, all accompanied by an overwhelmed and uncertain "Crap!" from him when I said I wasn't feeling any better, we decided I'm out of options, and he vocalized that opinion (been through the meds over the past 9 years), then suggested a new biologic drug, not yet on the market, in trial phase. Now, I've been on biologics, and haven't been responsive, and in some cases my body reacted negatively (anaphylaxis with Remicade), so I decided not to take a chance. Plus, he said I would have to have been OFF Humira for 8 weeks before starting this new drug, which I could even end up getting the placebo form of. So that wasn't an option. After more silence, I said let's go back on the pred for a few weeks. He agreed it was the only option at this point.. So I'll be going up to 30mg, AGAIN, and tapering down over a period of 12 weeks. We'll see how it goes. I'm really fed up already. Anyways, we'll see. That's all. Thanks for caring.

I am so sorry about your current situation. I really hope that the prednisone helps a bunch and buys you a lot of time, at least for you to make a good solid decision. That new biologic that you speak of... is it Raptiva - Efalizumab? That sounds really scary. The possible side effects might be too much for it to get approved, but who knows?

You'll be in my thoughts. Keep us posted.

I am sorry you have to up your pred, but I hope it does the trick.

Keep us posted!

Wow your story is exactly like mine! However my first resection done laproscopic lasted 7 years, but my second one....been since 2003 and still fighting it. Been on the biologics, and Remicade put me in ER 3rd dose. Same with Humira, down to a week. Cimzia is on its way here but when who knows. My Gi thinks it wouldnt work anyways. I was on Methotrexate last year for the second time...did squat. I was ready for surgery last year but I was able to cope. I just take 1 Flagyl a day and I am pretty much ok.

I have been on Pred so many times over the years, but it is just a bandaid and the side effects are worse. So now I have osteo in my knee and shoulders...oh what fun it is to ride.... Just make sure you are taking adequate Calcium, and a tums once in while so you dont end up with Gerd or Hiatus Hernia, like I did. All the best, hang in there.

There has to be a cure someday...
