colonoscopy

well the date is set for my colonoscopy and i am scared. I am happy though that i will soon find out what is going on and if i am a crohnie as you guys put it. i have read all about colonoscopies but it doesnt say if i will be in any pain afterwards. what should i expect from a colonoscopy and how do i keep from going out of my mind until i finally get a definite diagnosis.

That's a great next step toward diagnosis. What's the date of it?
I have had 5 colonoscopies, and I was only in pain after one of them. Horrible gas pains, so much that I had to call in sick the next day. It just wiped me out.
If you do a search on here for 'colonoscopy', you might get some good stories.
My doc told me it was Crohn's right after my first one, so it's possible you might find out right away. The prep (drinking beforehand) is really the worst part. Yeah - do a search for 'prep' too. There was a really good thread about all different types of prep and which ones people preferred.

it is thurs. may 28. and my kid has a zoo trip the next day and im supposed to go with her. will i still be capapble of going. and yes i hope to know. i know something is wrong cause im still in pain.

Only your doctor can tell you if you can or can't go on the trip the next day. Anyway, good to know that your colonoscopy was scheduled quickly. I had an reg. appointment on Tuesday and the next colonoscopy they could schedule me for was June 22nd. You seriously do need to just find it in you to relax -- I know it's hard (believe me, I've been dealing with symptoms since October and have yet to be diagnosed), but the more you pace back and forth over everything, the more stress you will do to your body and possibly intensify symptoms.

yes my doctor was persistant and i am grateful. i think he wants an answer just as bad as me. i am trying to relax and i can i just scared about the colonoscopy as i have never had one/

i honestly think the worst thing about a colonoscopy, is the worry and anxiety we can get before it. truly.

i've had quite a few over the years, the last one not very long ago, and it's over in minutes. yeah, its embarrassing, uncomfortable, but thank goodness its a quick procedure. and it can tell the doctors so much, so its worth gritting your teeth and just getting through it.

if you're really nervous, make sure you tell them when you get there, they might give you something to relax you a bit.

i was fine after mine.. my last one i drove home myself, then had a sleep for a couple of hours, and was back to normal the next day.

I just had a colonoscopy two hours ago. I just feel a bit bloated -- gas build-up that could power a foghorn. Other than that though, 'twas a piece of cake.

i think this might have been posted elsewhere, but ill reiterate:

some places wont let you drive yourself home, you must have a buddy to accompany you. if you dont have someone with you at the appt, then they wont give you any type of sedative, and ive never been awake for a scope but it doesnt sound fun!
make sure youve got a DD if you want the drugs

hahah!!!

well, im glad she was properly reprimanded for her poor choices. :D
come on now ding, shape up!

Like the others have said, alot of it is the "leading up" to it part. By the time I got to the hospital that morning, I was joking around like normal. I never fell alseep, but was in a "twilight" stage for sure. When I went back to my recovery room, that's when my gas let go. Oh my Mom & boyfriend LOVED that! LOL I got home, slept for a few hours & woke up feeling great. I went back to work the next day, but my stomach was a little sore. Good luck to ya!
