colonscopy biopsies came back......

normal, of course. The nurse says I need to eat better and exercise more and I'll feel better. Yeah, eat what?! Everything hurts. Soups are my friends, solid food hurts and I have to run to the bathroom in pain after eating it. Exercise, I used to do that. Did tae kwon do two or three times a week. Had a job, and while it started as a temp position they wanted to keep me. I don't have the energy for tae kwon do and I'm falling behind where I should be in belt progression. I was doing good for a while, only having symptoms occasionally, and was able to keep up. I had to turn down a long term job because I got to the point that I couldn't stay out of the bathroom and didn't have the energy to actually complete the tasks I needed to. I've about had it. I'm going in on Friday to see the physicians assistant, and depending on what happens I may just stop for now. I'm tired of being poked, prodded, and violated only to be told everything is normal. The nurse put me on amytriptaline (sp) for ibs, it hasn't done anything at all, no side effects, no nothing. Guess that's better than the bentyl she tried after the endoscopy. It made the diarrhea worse and the side effects were horrible. I like my dr, but his nurse, I wish she would try listening for a change.

I'm sorry to hear that Jackie, we have all been and continue to be in your shoes :(

How long have you been on the ami? As it does take several weeks to kick in.

Hi Jackie , I know how frustrating this and it seems to go on forever. I recently got told i have Colitis and psoibly a issue in the Illiem aswell. This was afetr three years of endless discomfort and horrible D. Ive recently been givre Ami and it does nothing for the pain but i do sleep better with it.
I hope you will get a better treatment that will help . In the mean time try to stay calm , eat smaller meals , take more excercise especially stretching this will help . I know youve heard this all before but for me i think its really important to try or to feel that you can help yourself at times .
Try to get an appointment with another doctor for a second opinion.
Im managing just about to keep my job and I feel its because of the meds and the efforts im making . I do hope you get more help soon.

Jackie - how does your blood work look? Vitamin B, D etc.....if those levels are low that could be part of the problem. You mention a nurse prescribing medications - what does your doctor/GI say?.....

I found out through a neurologist I was sent to that I have low b12, and I've been on injections for about a year. The levels were in the normal range the last time I had them checked, and it's about time for another check. My ob/gyn ordered some blood work and that's how I found out my vitamin d was low. She put me on an 8 week super dose, and now I'm taking regular vitamin d daily. Levels are coming up slowly, but aren't normal yet. I am also taking a full vitamin b supplement to help balance the b levels. All my other blood work has been normal. The dr has to sign off on all of the prescriptions as she is a registered nurse, but not a nurse practitioner. I've been on the ami for almost 2 weeks (2 weeks tomorrow). I don't even sleep better on it. It's almost like I'm not taking anything.

Hi Jackie, the Ami is a low dose anti depressant, and it needs time to build up in the body before working, 4-6 weeks at least, so fingers crossed in a few weeks it starts working for you. It did work for me for a year or two before becoming ineffective.
