My husband is 25 years old and and was diagnosed with UC at 17 yrs old. He has pretty much been in remission for the last 3 years with Imuran and Asacol. In July he developed some stomach pain in his left lower quadrant-over his colon, as well as a fever. It was pretty severe at times-he couldn't even walk down the hall without being doubled over in pain. We went to see his G.I. doctor who did blood work and a CT scan. His blood work was fairly normal except WBC of 12 and CRP elevated. His CT showed what looked to be diverticulitis. He went on 10 days of Flagyl and Cipro Oral. He seemed to be getting better, but not until the last day or 2 of therapy. He then was mostly well for about 2 weeks, when the pain and fever came back pretty badly. We went straight back to the doctor, he did another CT which according to the nurse, only showed constipation, but yet the doctor called in 14 more days of flagyl and cipro. He has just finished the antibiotics, about 4 days ago, and now his stomach pain is slowly coming back, and he is running a fever again 100.6 tonight. He has lost 15-20 lbs, and he only weighs about 145lbs now. Anyone ever experience these same symptoms? He is not having his typical flair symptoms, no blood, no diarrhea. He is taking probiotics, Imuran 150mg daily, Asacol HD, and occasional colace if we think he is constipated. As well as occasional tylenol for fever. He took zofran with antibiotics for nausea and occasional lortab when his pain is at its worst.

Any ideas on what is going on and what my next step should be??

Also-the only times he vomitted was the first time he was on antibiotics-there was a speck of bright red blood in it-the doctor did not seemed concerned about this. It was not "coffee grounds" or bile. He has not vomitted since. He does have smaller bowel movements-and he says they are narrow, but this has been his norm for a couple years.

I'm sorry I haven't seen this sooner. :( Is your husband doing any better? I would say that if he still has that high of a fever that he should get himself checked out! Unfortunately, I'm not sure on what the next step would be. But, it does sound like no matter what they're doing, he's continuing to have some sort of inflammation. I would continue asking questions as you are now, even if it ends up being a second opinion. Please keep us updated. Sending you lots of hugs.

I am wondering if maybe they misdiagnosed him and maybe a Dr. could do more testing for crohns?I know many on here have crohns symptoms like taht. But I'm still learning.
