Hello, I joined this forum about a month or so ago. I have Crohn's and am having a resection on 02/06/12. Well on this last Friday morning I began feeling very ill. Weak, fever miserable discomfort. I was taken to the ER by a coworker. I was not able to have a BMW which is odd for someone that can literally go demand. So I thought for sure I was having an obstruction. It was 16 hours before in my sleep I awoke to pain and bowel was leaking out of me without control. Now I have been told since they were finally able to do a stool study that I have C-Diff....ahhhh. Has anyone had this with their Crohn's? Is this common, I have not been on any recent antibiotic or around anyone with this. If anyone has any insight I would so appreciate it especially since I don't see my doc until later today . Hoping I get to go home. Thanks

Having Crohn's does make you more susceptible to c-diff. I've never had it, but heard it's miserable. I hope they get it cleared up soon!

Shan728- Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you're dealing with c-diff. I've had severe c-diff on and off for three years, and when I first got it I wasn't taking any antibiotics or anything! I ended up in the hospital many many times and that's when I first started seeing a GI. I was put on Flagyl, it worked the first time, then I relapsed 6 months later after a sinus infection and actually needed antibiotics. MAJOR relapse in fact, lots of blood, mucus, the abdominal pain was terrible. I actually laid in the restroom because I couldn't leave. Finally, i was taken into the hospital and they gave me Flagyl to take home, only the c-diff had built an immunity to it so they put me on Vancomycin. (very expensive!). This was all back in 2009 when everything first started. I had my last reoccurance in October and found out I have Crohns in early December. I do believe their has to be a connection with all of this! I know c-diff makes a person feel so down and just like garbage. I lost weight over the c-diff too because everything I ate went right through me. I know how bad c-diff sucks! :( I hate to hear you are dealing with it. If you need more information, please visit cdiffdiscuss.org It's a support group for c-diff individuals. I'm on there as well, I have the same user name on there as I do here. I have my story under histories, which goes much more into detail. I need to update it actually! There are people on there who can answer your questions, along with some nurses and doctors too. Please get better soon!

I contracted C-Diff whilst in hospital and it was horrible. I spent a week constantly puking my guts up and going to the toilet. and this was just after having an emergency bowel resection so it wasn't the best time to contract it. I'd spent a lot of time in hospital on many different anti biotics so this could be what helped it to become aggressive in me.

From what the docs say, anyone can get it but i think having crohns will make you more susceptible to it. Probably because of all the drugs/weaker immune systems etc a lot of people carry the c-diff bug without knowing it and sometimes never showing symptoms but they can pass it on to other people.

I hope you are feeling better soon! C-Diff can be very very nasty.
