Confused about meds

I am so confused about meds right now

I was on paxil for quite some years and the doctor and I decided to try another antidepressant in hopes that it may help with my tummy problems. The first one we have tried was Effexor and Elavil and to no success.

Now I have an apt with my doctor tomorrow afternoon and I know he will be bringing up the one called Cymbalta as he had suggested before but I wanted to try Elavil. I am scared of trying a new medication, I am so hesitant. We were trying to find an antidepressant that would cause some sort of constipation instead of me always taking lomotil every day. Effexor did well for the constipation and I had some energy but I could not sleep and I had the worse insomnia ever. Elavil gave me tummy cramps and such Zombie like conditions, and hardly no concentration, with headaches above the eyes.

On paxil I had no problems, except the diarrhea in which I used lomotil to help.

Now I do not know what to do, try Cymbalta or go back to Paxil
I am at a lost.

There is some preliminary research to suggest that Wellbutrin may be effective in not only treating depression but also IBD. The theory is that it may have an anti-TNF quality to it. It's mostly anecdotal reports but many on the drug report going into remission.

Hi,

Not sure if wellburtin will do me well, I've been reading and it has been said to cause diarrhea.
Has anyone taken this so far??

You will find that you really can't go by the listed side effects. Almost every drug will list side effects like nausea, diarrhea, constipation etc. The same drug might cause diarrhea in one person and constipation in the next.

I was on Prozac and very dizzy and fatigued but most people are energetic and hyper on it.

Side effects listed only happen to a small group of people who take them. Most likely you will find a drug that suits you but don't get too worked up on side effects listed.

I understand what you are saying but do not want to go in blind.

All what I was hoping for was something to help. I felt great mentally on paxil but was hoping for something to help with the D sigh

Here's an update

My doctor wants me to try pristiq a new snri. Only thing is that the smallest dose is 50mg suppose to start tomorrow morning and I am reall concerned about it. You can say I a having anxiety about anti anxiety medication

Anyone on pristiq

It's normal to be nervous about any new drug but hopefully this will work for you.
