think i am going through the predisone withdrawls. been puking off and on all day hurt all over bad headache and so on and doctor never called me back today

Food poisoning makes you do the same thing.

I've never experienced Pred withdrawals. Did you not taper off of Pred? The point of tapering is to avoid withdrawal symptoms such as this. Keep calling your doctor and if the symptoms don't stop then a trip to the ER might be a good idea to at least get fluids if not to find out what the problem may be (a blockage has similar symptoms).

What dose were you on?

Edit: It's best to wean down to at least 5mg before cutting you off. Some doctors go less than that even. And if you've been on it for more than 3 days, you should be weaned off.

1 was on 40 mg and also had a iv dose of steroid in the er last week to. i was on it almost 2 weeks

Well, keep in mind that doctors usually call you back after they're done seeing patients for the day. So if the office stops seeing patients at 5 or 6pm, the doctor may not call you until 8 or so.

Although last time I had to contact the doctor, his nurse didn't call me back until early the next morning. She woke me up and I was so groggy that I forgot to ask her my most important question, "How were my blood test results?"

i know but i usually get a response from her fairly quickly since i have been in her office more than at work the last 3 months

Ya you could definitely be having withdrawals then. Do you have a GP you could talk to (unless we're talking about your GP, then could you contact you GI doc?) and ask them what you should do? I don't know how long these symptoms will last if this is the actual problem. Use the ER at your discretion though. I went to the ER after not being able to hold down anything all day from food poisoning. As crohns patients, we need fluids and even having an IV put in is helpful. The ER could also give you something for nausea as well. If you can it might be a good idea to go ahead and go especially if you don't hear from your doc soon.

the nausea is finally starting to slow down but the pain all my joints are bothering me more than anything else.

Last time I had withdrawal symptoms it took nearly a week for me to stop puking. And I was weaned off of it, too. I started with 40mg for 2 weeks, then 30 for 2 weeks, and so on until I reached 5 for 2 weeks and still had the symptoms when I completely stopped. I was on it for a total of 2½ months, and this was at the beginning of April. Then I had another flare up at the end of April. Then back on it at the beginning of May (since I was put in the hospital), weaned to 10mg and had another flare up while on that dosage. So now I'm tapering off by 5mg every 2 weeks instead of 10. Should be a total of 4 months for me, and that's if I take the 5mg dosage for only 2 weeks. My GI may decide to have me on it for longer.

i called the on call number she was on another call and said will get back to me but its been 20-30 mins already. before i was on the pred for a week andhalf she had me o encort and stopped that fast with pred.

heard back from her the standard answer if need something tonight go to er or i can see you in the office sometime tomorrow. she dont think it is withdrawl since i wasnt on it for more then 2 weeks.

My doctor never weaned me off of pred either. He said I was on it for such a short period that it wouldn't have an effect if I just came off of it cold turkey. Well, I was only on for 1 week. I was having severe joint pain while on it. Didn't notice any withdrawal effects probably because I was so deathly ill.

Anyhow, I switched doctors for other reasons... lack of communication. He was very arrogant and didn't listen. Not once, did I ever get a call back from him except the day he told me my CT scan results. By then it was too late for me. He was very apologetic because he knew he messed up.

Sorry for carrying on like that. I'm still getting over what had happened. Still very disturbed.
