OK. I was just wondering how many people have had problems after having their terminal ilieum removed. Is it just me or does anyone else having issues maintaining weight? Doctors won't put me on meds because they have done countless tests which show I'm in remission besides mild gastritis. I have tons of symptoms since the surgery and still can't gain weight even when eating 12 meals a day. I'm so tired. I was just wondering if any of you have problems or if the surgery didn't cause too many issues.

The only other thing that is being looked at currently is a possible acromegaly diagnosis :( I have an MRI tomorrow to confirm.

Thanks again!

How long ago was your surgery?

I'm only 3 weeks post op, from having a fair section of my TI removed as well. I am tired all the time, and have urgent bm all throughout the day, but m weight is stable.

Are you eating calorie dense food 12 times per day? Also I guess it goes without saying, if your bowels are loose as well, then you need extra water to replace fluids etc.

Hello Wolf
You have listed zoloft and lorazepam as two of your meds, this could be causing some tiredness.
Also when is the last time you saw your GI?
Have you had a full blood work up recently, and did it include B12 evaluation? Iron? etc
These are tests that should be done to help evaluate the situation.
Incidentally, my sister has a diagnosis of acromegaly, and is being treated for it.She has
a weight problem ,not too marked, but would like to weigh less!
Have you tried supplementing with high protein drinks like ensure boost etc.
You could also make your own with protein powder, whey and milk drinks etc.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Wow. Thanks for the replies :) I had my surgery 2 1/2 years ago :/ I only weight 96lbs with crohn's in remission. Weird.

I think I'm eating too much protein and need more carbs? At any rate, boost gives me diahrrea. I need something pretty safe to take with high calories. So far all the natural stuff I've looked has added herbs that I don't want to consume. Butter doesn't seem to bug me too much so I've been adding lots of it to my food since my cholesterol is dangerously low :/ I stopped all fish oil because I fear it will just lower LDL even more. I've been on it for a long time and down went my cholesterol. I eat too healthy too (crazy or what).

I'm trying to consume more water :) Its such a difficult balance. I've been told my potassium has been low :/ Can't eat bananas.

Does anyone drink pedialyte?

The problem is my GI won't do the indepth B12 blood testing or other testing on nutrition. He did the regular B12 levels a few months ago and they were high because I was giving myself shots. I decided to go off of them and do sublinguals because the shots were giving me rashes. My iron is low or was but every doctor thinks that because my hemoglobin is high, I'm not anemic. Whatever. My naturopath did tests in February and some of my blood tests showed elevated B levels so I had to adjust things a little. I'm not sure where things stand now. I can't afford to see my naturopath at the moment. I'm just guessing by taking a multi and B12 sublingual every 3 days.

My IGF-1 is still in the 500. If you don't mind me asking, how high was your sister's? My feet did grow a little but nothing much else. I just have heart palpatations constantly and its hard for me to swallow--like my tongue is too big.

Thanks! :thumright:
