Confused and hoping someone can answer..15 year old had calprotection test on 4/20 and results came back at 636ug..Doc ordered EGD and Colonoscopy..retook calprotection test while performing colonoscopy on 5/13 and results where <16ug..my question is, can a proper test be performed considering she had a complete clean out?

My guess would be no. The residual stool material left in the gut after bowel prep for colonoscopy very likely has an altered composition from that of the "normal" pre-bowel prep stool. I would ask the doc the repeat the test once stool has returned to normal after the colonoscopy. Not sure how long that would take.

Here is a study confirming the introduction of variability by the bowel prep and recommends to avoid collecting calprotectin specimens during bowel prep:

My son has had fc tested when other testing is being done but never at the same time.

Last full work up(DC, upper amd lower scope, imaging) he had fc done then 3 days later scope and next day MRE.

The GI said that prep for scope or MRE can effect outcome of FC.

We did all 3 around the same time in an effort to see if FC was going to be a good inflammation indicator for him since inflammatory markers in blood tests have never been indicative of his disease activity.
