Constipation no diarrhea ?

I'm not one of them and it's not as common but yes there are those with crohn's who suffer constipation and not d.

Yes. You will find eating sugar foods/drinks will make it worse. Drink plenty of water (found drinking full glass upon waking each morning helps jump start things). Sometimes drinking heated water makes a difference, belly rubs, etc...different natural tricks (yoga, stretches) will help move things along.

Thank u! My GI thinks I may have ibd, but I don't hVe a colonoscopy until April :( unless someone else cancels before then. My ESR rate was high she said but at first she didn't think anything was wrong other then Ibs because I was always constipated. But I get the most crippling stomach aches from it, and everything I eat makes me feel horrible

I do not get D either. More constipation. I almost wonder at times if I took a daily stool softener, if it would make things more regular.

I am this way too...constipated and not D. I have gone on the paleo diet, now for 53 days. ALL my Crohn's symptoms are GONE. I had erythema nodosum, with a lot of swelling in my joints. The swelling was gone in TWO days. TWO. Everyone with Crohn's should try the Paleo diet. EVERYONE. I had two doctors (one from Mayo) tell me to go on Humira and Methotrexate and that was my only option in getting better. As a last resort I tried Paleo...and here I am. I'm not saying I'm in remission yet, because it hasn't been THAT long, but I feel great, look great, and am only on Pentasa. TRY IT. http://www.thepaleomom.com/autoimmunity/the-autoimmune-protocol

I think I'll become one of those Paleo nuts that won't shut the heck up about it. But if you have Crohn's and haven't tried it, you are limiting yourself immensely. Just do it for 30 days, just SEE if it helps. My swelling went away in two days. A week later I ate some cashews and macadamian nuts. That night, my ankle swelled up like a baseball. Am I allergic to nuts? Nope. WHY would I get that reaction?? Don't know, probably permeable gut that made me sensitive to nuts. But once the inflammation and permeability goes away, then I can try nuts again. You slowly add things back in, once you are healed, to see what causes you problems.

Every time I used to eat, I'd feel bloated, gassy, and just kind of gross. I thought that was normal. I don't have that ANY more. I just feel fine after I eat. Which is the norm...that I never realized.

DO IT.

I'm reading The Paleo Approach and it says NO ONE should be eating gluten. Whether you have auto immune disease or not. Just because you are not diagnosed as celiac, doesn't mean you aren't sensitive to it.

I've heard a lot about that too. I'm waiting on a diagnosis but either way I think I will try it! I'm a work out freak too, a future npc bikini competitor too, so this really interferes with training for it :( I just wanna feel better

That book is really amazing. And I'm so surprised at how fast my swelling went down. TWO days is just absolutely nuts. And don't get me wrong, I felt like SH*T for 4-5 days...carb flu. I had zero energy. But it subsided slowly.

I had tried the SCD diet when I first got diagnosed about 8 years ago. I made it 4 days and then ate half a pizza. I was SO hungry. I just wasn't doing it right though....I wasn't eating enough.

This morning I had a kale salad and chicken with olive oil and balsamic for breakfast. Definitely NOT something I'm craving for breakfast, but after I eat it, I feel great cuz I'm like, Wow, I already got a ton of nutrients. Breakfast is key...if I dont' eat a ton at breakfast, the rest of the day I'm starved.

After a while, the diet is more about what you can ADD to it for healing, rather than what you take away. (You are supposed to do organ meats and bone broth, which I haven't yet had the guts to do.) But even without those things, my healing has been amazing. I do take a ton of supplements too, Nordic Naturals Omegas, turmeric, B12, and vitamin D.

After 53 days I haven't added too much back in yet...I've done egg yolks and chocolate (cuz I couldn't live without it) and that's about it. But I really don't feel deprived. Cuz I feel so much better...it's worth it.

You may not even end up needing your colonoscopy. :)

any way you look at it I guess some of us are saying you do have to look at what you are putting into your body that may either aggrevate or cause flares. Think of your body as a car...you won't put bad gas in it....you put in it what it needs. You put in junk, you get disease as the result. I am not a clean eater, but I do know that if I eat poorly, then my health falters....keep that in mind. feel better!

I too have thought about paleo. Im very interested in it. It's a lot of things I'm not used to buying and need to research where to find things. I'd be curious to see how your scope looks Lauren. Not sure when you're due but keep us posted. Hoping that its a break through!!!
