Hi All,
I've been in a so called remission for nearly year - great you'd think but I now suffer with the total opposite problem - I'm always constipated!
I've been prescribed Movical which I take 1 one day, 2 the next, this makes no difference, when I get to nearly a week of not going I start taking Ducolax. I used to take 2 tablets and that would work I now have to take 6 before any movement!
I don’t really know what foods I should or shouldn’t be eating – I know the main rules and I’m on a low fibre diet, no fruit! Does anyone have and idea on some trigger foods that wont anger my insides but will make me go to the loo and know why this is happening to me, is it some sort of blockage?
Any help of tips will be great – my gastro guy says he doesn’t need to see for a year as ‘I’m doing so well!’

Hi Jen,
I have the same problem. I have no luck with any oral constipation remedies or high fibre diets. Have you tried suppositories? Enemas? There are different kinds and they avoid irritating the whole gut.

Hi Jen (I'm a Jen from the UK too!).
I have the same problem. When I was first diagnosed I went to loo ALL the time, now I can go weeks without going(My record is 3 1/2 weeks!!). I hate it. I feel bloated ALL the time and I've put on weight. I'm also on alow residue diet which I know doesn't help.
I'm afraid I don't have any answers, but i really do sympathise!

Hi Jen, I cannot imagine anything worse than not going for a week - I would feel so uncomfortable!

I am on the LOFFLEX diet, which is low residue, low fat but allows fruit except citrus fruits, though you have to remove the skin and any seeds.

I have 2 normal BMs daily, but could not possibly manage it without eating fruit. As I eat so few veggies I need fruit fiber. As well as fresh fruit I also eat a few prunes every day, which I soak in hot water so the skins come off. Prunes are excellent for getting the bowel working regularly.

The LOFFLEX diet disallows dried fruit, but I find I am OK with prunes, though not with any other kind of dried fruit.

When I had a problem with constipation many yrs ago, I had a course of
6 colonics, which stimulated the colon and got persistalsis working again. But this had to be combined with a diet high in fruit fiber, or I would have been back to square one as soon as the course finished.

The other thing that is good for treating constipation is Yoga, as many of the movements involve 'massaging' the colon.

Good luck.:ysmile:

I have exactly the same thing too! It's soo good to know that I'm not abnormal! Thanks everyone who replied.
I wondered if the skinny part of my intestines made this worse so it gets stuck? Once it's skinny does it always stay that way or after a while of being ok does it go back to normal size?
I'm seeing the doctor next week so i'll let you know of anything she suggests!

P.S.
3 1/2 weeks!!! That is shocking!!!! I really don't know how you managed to cope with that I find a week bad enough!

A pharmacist recommended apple juice once a day to help with constipation after a barium follow through.

I suffered really badly after the first time I had the above test and looked about 9mths pregnant due to cramping and trapped wind on top of the constipation due to the barium. Was up for 48hrs constantly before things sorted out and was in hospital at the time so pacing the corridors!

Because of that I was really worried it would happen again so the pharmacist said to try the apple juice as it was really gentle and yet would work. It worked a treat and any time I suffer this is what I do now.

Just a thought..

Hope you are doing ok Jen ((hugs))
