I have moderate Crohn's. I am taking Lialda and Canasa. Due to severe sleep apnea I am taking Cymbalta and Nuvigil. I also take Prilosec, tums, Gaviscon...

I have trouble with constipation and gas, I can relieve constipation with eating lost of prunes and dried apricots the night before - but the flatulence is unreal. Doc told me to get Miralax - doesn't do the job for me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome barelyalive.

Sorry you are having problems. I had really bad constipation the other week where I hardly went for 2 weeks. Unfortunately taking an increased fibre amount would of made it worse as I have strictures that makes it hard for any baulk to get through.

In the end I took lactulose. You can get it over the counter here so hopefully you can get it there too. It worked really well.. maybe a little too well in the end but at the time I certainly wasn't complaining. It's also a liquid so you can start off with a small amount and increase the dosage if it's not working. I just went for the full 15ml to begin with as I was desperate.

Not too sure that you wouldn't get a lot of gas with this too though.. it's just the way things go. But Gas-x often helps me with that problem.

Hope this helps :)

what about a stole softener? That my mom's answer for nearly any stomach trouble. If fiber is an issue that might help. what about an natural laxative.
I have similar troubles due to not eating that much fiber, tramadol and lots of iron.

i have problems with constipation too. i sometimes go 3-4 days without feeling like i have to go. other times i feel like i have to go and can't. my doctor recommends konsyl. its a fiber powder you mix in fluid. i do orange juice. you can't taste the powder that way. i just started it so i haven't seen any results yet. in the past i have tried miralax and it never worked for me. i think with laxatives/stool softeners its a trial and error thing. you have to try different things to see what works for you; everyone is different.

I used to have nothing but the big D for years, and now all I get is major C and it is even worse! Who knew? What works best for me is Doc-q-lace. I got it as a prescription. It is a stool softener but works very well. Good luck!

you can try a bottle of magnesum citrate you can get it over the counter, that will make you go within a couple of hours. thats what the er gave me when i went 4 days without anything.
