Contraception and Crohn's treatment

Hi all,

Quick question - I've got an appointment next Friday to talk about getting the contraceptive implant, Implanon.

Does anybody know if it could interfere in anyway with Crohn's treatment? So far I'm not on any treatment but if I was to have the implant fitted soon and then have either surgery or Remicade/Infliximab, do you think this would be an issue? I'm gna ask my GP but I'm not sure if she'll have all the information I'll need.

I don't know as I do not have one of these but there is a website(I'll post the link for you) that I go to a lot just to do quick checks for my meds if I am worried. Just type in the name of the drug and it will tell you the major interactions, things to watch for, ect. And I think it's pretty reliable because my Pharmacist reccomended it. Good Luck!

The only thing I've heard about contraceptives and Crohn's is the Blood Clots. Sometimes it's a side effect of certain Crohn's medications. Well, also of contraceptives.

I would talk to your doctors if you have questions.

Had my implant put in yesterday morning I was a big girl and really freaked out about it but actually it was totally fine, I needed a double dose of local anaesthetic because I could still feel it but then I didn't feel A THING. after she steri stripped up the wound and dressed it and bandaged it up. I kept being scared it would hurt after but it never did, I'm getting the odd twinge if I move my arm in certain ways but that's it, although I'm still scared to move much lol. It's pretty bruised but not as bad as I thought. I've taken the bandage off now and there's just the dressing on. Hoping my periods will disappear and it will work for me and then that's it, done for 3 years yey!
