Coping with bowel problems, when in meetings, family gatherings and funerals?

I should be going to a funeral on friday, but i hate going due to my ibs.. i might need to leave and use the toilet.

Any suggestions would be great!

Well for a funeral it may be as simple as you needing to excuse yourself because you're crying so much and if possible, sit near the back at the end of the isle so you're getting up wont be as much of a disruption. Same goes for meetings, while in class etc.

You could also try taking something for diarrhea beforehand. My GI prescribed Lomotil which is a stronger version of Immodium.

When I was flaring I would usually sit towards the back wherever I was so I could leave easily and quietly like Crabby suggested. I also wouldn't eat beforehand unless it was a safe food and then eat afterwards.

When I had chronic D, I used to take a dose of Imodium (Loperamide) a couple of hours prior to travelling or the start of the event. It used to work like a chemical cork for me, just had to watch out when the bottle was opened!

Thanks everyone.. i take codeine phosphate and imodium instants.. think i will have to get up megga early have lots of toilet paper.. and maybe have to use the toilet.. if i have to.

For most things i like sitting on the end of a isle.. near the back/or the door just incase.. Such a shame its like that :-(
