Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I was diagnosed with Crohn's 2 years ago but have been largely asymptomatic since (other than the 3-day bout of cramps and blood that led to the diagnosis!).

Unfortunately I have a 4cm ileal stricture and active Crohn's in the small bowel. I take 3g Pentasa and 150mg Imuran daily. Blood tests have been monthly (though hopefully going to quarterly now) and I see my consultant every 3-4 months. In the past 2 years I have had 3 colonoscopies and 2 small bowel MRIs.

As I live in the UK, all GP and consultant appointments, blood tests and scans/scopes have been covered by NHS. Pentasa costs me £8.05 for a 2-month supply and Imuran is £8.05 for a 6-week supply.

I realise that Crohn's can be unpredictable, but assuming my treatment plan remains similar over the next year or so, roughly how much would the equivalent cost me in Republic of Ireland (including medication, bloods and appointments)? My husband and I are considering moving there (he is Irish) but I am concerned that the cost of treatment may be prohibitive. I am certain that I will not qualify for a Medical Card.

Let's also add a pregnancy into the mix as adding to our family is part of the grand plan if we do make the move.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Helen
