Hello, again! :ytongue:

Sorry I've been posting so many threads! But, I've just recently learned my cousin on my dad's side of the family has crohn's disease. Though I'm not too sure if it runs in our exact family line, but I'm wondering if I should be tested for it, just to be on the safe side? It's a bit hard to convince my mom to get me tested, as she thinks since I'm not having diarrhea, there's not a single possibility I would have Crohn's.
My mom also has an autoimmune disease(don't remember the name well), as does my dad's side, which is hashimoto's disease.

Should I talk to my doctor about testing for Crohn's? And autoimmune diseases, as well?

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read my questions and posts. I really appreciate it.

If you feel sick, what's the harm. If you feel great, what's the point?

Talk to your doctor, the doc'll be able to ask more questions so to see if it's possible you have it.

The prep for the testing is the only thing I'm scared of. I'm almost always dehydrated already, and I hear the prep isn't easy on people's bodies.

Thank you for the advice, I'm tired of feeling sick all the time so I'll question the doctor the next time I see her. :)

I wouldn't think you need to be tested if you're not showing symptoms. The tests that can confirm Crohn's are quite invasive - you can't just do a simple blood test. Also if your tests come back negative now, it doesn't mean you won't develop the disease in the future, and have to go through the tests again.

It's useful to know your family history as it means if you do develop symptoms at any time, you and your doctors will have a good idea which illnesses to suspect.

Edit: just saw your second post - if you are feeling ill, then talking to your doctor about the possibility of having Crohn's would be a good place to start.
The preps are not fun but they're not too bad either.
