I notice lately, that I get stomach pain for a bit and then some strong cramping. From what I read, I have either stricture or narrowing? I am currently only on Pentasa. Do the other meds help with any of this? Sign me always feeling something!!! Sue

Sue - where is your disease again? I forget. It could mean that you have narrowing (from inflammation) or a stricture - if it gets very much worse - I might give the doc a call. Something you want to stay on top of if it is inflammation going on.

You know Peaches, I am not certain where else it is. For certain its in my J Pouch & Terminal Ileum (Sp?). But, somethings up. I have bm's--alwasy d because I have no colon. Some liquid & some thick. But, recently I get some stomach pain & then cramping. So, something is up. Do the meds help if it is narrowing..understand (?) if it is a stricure that needs surgery. But, well...from my posts..you cxan see how freaked out I get..I tried to stay off the internet most of the weekend cause, I get way to hyped! LOL--and need to be slapped. I have to keep thinking---it is what it is! Thank you tons and tons for posting right away....Sue

Narrowing isn't always permanent and needing surgery - no. It can be caused by inflammation and if you can get it under control quick enough - you can hopefully avoid going down the path of scarring which tends to be caused by being inflammed chronically or over and over again in the same spot. If you feel that you have active disease going on - IMO the Pentasa isn't enough to get it quieted down again. You should probably call your doctor and get in and let them have a peek.

Hey - knock that mess off!! Why are you feeling that way?? I don't think you are....we are here to answer questions and to help people!! Turn that frown upside down girlie - and *please* don't feel that way about your doctor's office. You have to advocate for yourself and if that means more calls to the docs office - that is what they get paid for. If you are having something that you KNOW isn't normal - you should call - seriously. We have a chronic disease that changes all the time - how are you supposed to be able to doctor yourself in that situation?

THAAAAAAAAAAAAAnnnnnnnnnnks!!!! Since 96 you had this mess, I just can't believe it. Thanks Peaches! I think from your posts you said you have kids. How are they and how old are they? I am sure with you they are doing great. Is that you and your cat in the photo? Darling cat....You sure have nice curly hair! Mine is straaaiiight and thiiiick! And hard to control....Oh well, I don't to much into that! :) Sue

Two girlies - 9 and 17 - and they are *great*. And that is my crazy Bengal cat in the picture names Benny. He is bigger now - look for the thread "furbabies" and there are more pics of him in there.

Yes - I was finally diagnosed in 96 but have suffered with this mess for most of my life. Started getting bad when I was about 12 or 13 - they could just never pinpoint what it was. Honestly - since I have been on Remi (last 6 years or so ) it really hasn't been *all* that bad as it is been under pretty good control.

Cute cat...I am so happy you are doing well! It gives me hope. The kids can keep you forging through even the worst of days...don't you agree? :) Thanks for all your understanding. SUe

I imagine cramping can be caused by all sorts of things - so there would be all sorts of remedies. In the last couple days I have been experimenting with a simethicone/calcium carbonate OTC drug. It seems to be working, which tells me my cramping might be caused by gas.

Sorry to hear about the cramping, Sue. I have a stricture in my ileum and also get cramping, sometimes pretty severe. Doc has me on Humira and Entocort. From what I understand, if you get the flare under control you can eliminate the inflammation and avoid further scarring thus putting off surgery.

I have learned that my cramping is from a stricture. It is the kind of cramps that come in waves and can be quite intense. I compare it to labor pain as it occurs every several minutes. Sometimes it is followed by a loud gurgling sound/feel. It is almost always accompanied by abdominal swelling and usually occurs after I eat something difficult to digest. If it gets too bad, it will cause vomitting. Since my stricture is long, surgery is required (next week). However, my surgeon said that smaller strictures can sometimes be treated with meds. You may need a small bowel X-ray series to get some answers. Hope this helps, I'll say a prayer for you!
