I saw another thread that was 7 years old. If there is a current thread about this would someone please give me a heads up?

I met my 3rd GI specialist in as many years yesterday, which had me all stressed out. They've all been great, but they keep leaving the clinic.

Anyway. New doc hypothesizes that I may have crohn's and IBS.

I am not a fan of the magical moon fossils or assorted diets people want to shove at me. I will look them up on my own time and my own initiative, but I tend to think people are sheep and popular things are sometimes extremely stupid.

A friend recommended FODMAPS. Gluten/crackers/toast is my go-to flare food. So... I don't know what to do this. Does anyone have any personal experience with it?

Disclaimer- I will NOT criticize anyone else's diet/med choices. If something worked for you that's great. I might not adopt it, but I'm not trolling just to judge people.

I'm on remicade right now, starting my 2nd year. I'm tired of dealing with this crud.

I'm interested in hearing how other people have coped, if anyone is willing to share.

I did the fodmaps elimination diet and lucky for me I had no reaction to gluten. Like you, toast is my goto food when things are bad, so I wasn't too surprised.

The trick with fodmaps is not to avoid all of them but to figure out which of the fodmaps (if any!) give you issues.

TBH I didn't learn anything really new but that was because I already knew most of my food sensitivities like lactose and I wasn't reacting to specific fodmaps in a big way, but I'm glad I did it because that put the gluten thing to bed once and for all! And I learnt a bit more about nutrition along the way which is never a bad thing.

And in my case the IBS turned out to be a Crohn's flare which is still ongoing, but you wouldn't be the first one with both.

I see you're in the US where high fructose corn syrup (the F in fodmaps is for Fructose) is in many things so probably worth doing the elemination diet. However I really do reccommend doing it with a dietician to be sure you're going about it the right way.

HTH. If you have any specific questions about fodmaps, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for the response. :) HFCS is in everything. I tend to notice what has it and what doesn't, but I don't always auto-reject it.

I should probably see a dietician anyway. I just don't get much out of those because I can't remember anything after I leave.

For example, I have been on remicade for 2 whole years, so starting my third. Doh.
