Hello!
First, let me say I'm so glad I found this forum. I've suffered from Crohn's (well, first it was Colitis then my diagnosis was changed later on) knowingly since 2001/2002. I have actually been in remission for about four years maybe? But that's not the point, I can share my story later.

(you can skip this part if you are lazy. It's just a ramble. the next paragraph is my question)
Anyway, I've been feeling really ill again. I thought it was a hangover from two drinks for my sister's 20-10th birthday (30th) on the 8th of September but it lasted until now. I went to the ER on Thursday and they just drugged me up until I fell asleep. My mom was there and she told me they tested me for Lyme and West Nile. I doubt I have WN (my symptoms are way too long to list but along with the usual crohn's symptoms I have blurry vision, rashes all over my skin, weak muscles that feel as if they're stiffening when usually with a flare they are painful and so on and so forth. Too many more to bore you with).

Now, that was kind of a little ramble. my point is (and I've tried to google but everything says lyme causes crohn's or feels like it, something of the sort) what happens if one has crohn's already and gets lyme disease?

I haven't gotten my results back but a friend said she had the same symptoms and the doctors are pretty positive. I just want to be prepared.

I hate to sound like a spoiled brat but my worst fear of getting ill again is the Total Parenteral Nutrition (if I need it). It really hurt my arm. It was worse than my stomach pain even though it was in a different place. Not to scare anyone who may need it. I think I was just allergic to it.

Sorry this post is so long but I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could happen if I do have Lyme.

I really do not know how Lyme disease would influence Crohns
Lyme will weaken your immune system which could make Crohns better or worse depending on the person.

Lyme can be very bad on its own. My wife had it for quite some time.
If you have it, treat it seriously
Two weeks of antibiotics won't do the job.
See an (LLMD) Lyme literate MD

Good luck

Dan

Thank you. And I have no idea how it would influence Crohn's but that's what I found online.

I thought it sounded odd as well.

How have things gone for you with the Lyme? I just started on a 30-day course of doxycycline after a blood test came back positive. I've been having aches, some cognitive effects, and some other weird things that I didn't understand before. I've been wondering if Crohn's is going to have any bearing on how the treatment and recovery will go.

Sometimes abx like doxycycline can trigger a CD flare. Before my son's first CD flare he had been on doxycycline for a month. I'm not saying that abx cause CD just that they can trigger or exacerbate a flare.

Hopefully, others with experience with this will chime in.
