Hi everybody
I have been thinking about this for a while now. What are the possibility that we could donate our organs? We have this disease and on meds all day everyday but will it be possible to donate organs even if its just your heart? What are your thoughts
 
I know that many of us can't donate blood reason being because of the types of medications we are on. However, I have been told by the red cross that if my medications weren't on their no no list, I could possibly donate platelets even though I'm underweight.

As far as donating your organs however, I believe it'd depend on how healthy you are at the time. Here is an article by webmd.com I found that's pretty interesting. Hope this helps.

But, I would think your best bet for info would be to ask your doctor about it. If anyone would know, I'm sure he/she would.

Cross stitch gal, years ago , when my mother had leukemia, I was told I couldnt donate marrow to her because of the Crohn's Disease.
 
That sounds about right. I think I remember asking before about if it's possible if we as IBD patients could even donate to each other if one of us were healthy and being told no. I think they had told me how stiff the rules are for donating whether blood or organs.
 
So i took a look and they do say we can donate organs, but they have to do a exam when we are diseased to see what organs are viable for donation, i will have to talk to my GI about this very soon
 
Yes mandy , if i could just save one life with my heart or corneas or what ever i could donate i will do that. This is very important to me to know what my possibilities are
 
One of my near neighbours used to be head of the organ transplant service in Victoria (Australia) and he said that my Crohn's was not an impediment to my being an organ donor. Even skin is valuable for things like burn patients. I am registered as an organ donor and it is recorded on my driver's licence.

I was not acceptable as a blood donor but could have donated plasma if I had been well enough to start earlier.
 
Hi Christi totaly agree hun. If i could help just one person have a better life i be happy. 😊. Defo need to find out more on this... 💕
 
Hi iv just had a quick look up on donating. What i saw said. A crohns donation may be used depending on the overall condiction of the donor n organ/s at the time ... so looks like we could still be able to donate ☺It may vary from country to country tho .. 💖
 
Exactly what i saw as well i have to do more research but it looks like we can still do it, well i hope so
 
Ye me to . Im going to ring the number on my donor card and actualy ask them n see what they say. Il report back when i find out more Christi. Hope you are doing ok hun 💕💋
 
I haven't thought about this, I too am a donor. Didn't even think the disease would effect anything other than the colon.

My grandmother passed and had multiple health issues. They were still able to use her eyes for donation. Every little bit can help someone else in need.
