Hello, new to this group but have had crohn's disease for 12 years. My story is to long to mention, so I will not put you through it. I do have a question, does anyone diagnosed with crohn's have a weight problem? I have gained 40 lbs in the last 2 years. I still have problems with my stomach, but almost never have diarrhea. Does anyone else have these symptoms?

My son does not have diarrhea and goes regularly once everyday or every other day. He is having a very hard time gaining weight even though he is taking in between 3000 and 4000 calories per day. I think the weight loss is usually only a problem when the disease hits the small intestine.

Hello and welcome to the forum :bigwave: What type of tummy probs are you having and what meds are you on? This could play a part in the weight gain you have experienced. I gained a lot of weight about 3 years ago and I can easily attribute it to a long term stint on steroids, I was never really able to shift it until the last 12 months which included an op for a stricture and then a big flare up right before xmas. You most probably have already looked at this but what is your diet like? Perhaps check out our diet and sups sub forum for some further info on this side of things.

Really glad you have found us and decided to join!

Hey NayNay and welcome to the community! I'm pleased you found your way to our little corner of the internet :)

Yes, people with Crohn's Disease sometimes experience weight gain. There's plenty here on the forum who experience exactly that. As Angrybird mentioned, medications can be one of a myriad of potential causes. In addition, plenty of people experience constipation or at the very least do not have diarrhea, especially those who don't have active disease in the ileum.

Again, welcome, I'm glad you joined. We're here for you anytime!

Once I was put on Humira, I started to feel better. And, I began to eat everything in sight that I enjoyed. Now I have to lose 20 pounds. Ah, well. It was worth it at the time.
