Hello everyone,

I posted here a little while ago about my daughter who is 11. She is now at the point of seeing a hospital doctor and I have a few questions I hope some members here may be able to answer before her appointment this week.

For those who started Crohn's as a child or whose child has Crohn's what were the first signs please?

Also, my daughter has high fevers, roughly every month which last 3-4 days. She can get tummy ache with these fevers, but sometimes very mild. She also gets loose stools when she goes to the loo, but doesn't really get diarrhoea.

Do the symptoms ring any bell with any one?

I know symptoms of Crohn's can vary enormously, but I would also like to know if it definitely doesn't sound like your experience of Crohn's!

I think is unlikely my daughter does have Crohn's, but I'm keeping an open mind at the moment.

Many thanks, Sx

I have to say that those fevers, the potty trips and the pain hits very close to home.

Actually, when my Crohn's started, it manifested in my joints, mostly my ankles at that point. Finally when my weight was 38lbs at 8 years old and my guts and fevers were worse than the ankles, they switched the part of the body to attack, and my ankles cleared up.

I was an easy diagnosis, even at such a young age 7-8, because my mother was diagnosed when she was 12. We're very much proof that there has to be something in the genetics - at least for us!

But please don't hesitate to ask me any questions privately. I remember what I went through when I was young and would love to help any other children get through that horrible time in their lives. It's so hard being really young and really sick - for both the child and those who love them.

Hi silvermander,

thank you for replying. You were diagnosed so young? My daughter started having tummy problems 2 years ago - I hadn't realised it had been going on so long until our family doctor pointed it out, because it's been on and off. She only started with the fevers in earnest in December.

She also has joint pain, especially in her knees and hips, but only during her fevers. So far, touch wood, her joints have never swollen. silvermander, do you mind if I ask if your joint pain was always there, or just during your fevers?

Thanks again.
