i was taking pentasa for about 3 months since diagnosis. Ive been on a strict diet and have taken extensive notes tracking everything ive ever eaten since being diagnosed, i wanted to understand the disease and study it for my own eyes so as not to be institutionalized by anyone about its real nature. I still have inflammation thats for sure, but its now so minimal, that ive found that the medication is no longer needed, and i do believe with continued hard work, i will improve even more in the next 4-6 months as i have been.

started with colon spasms that were excruciating, bloating, blood, mucus, maldigestion, weird colored BM's. actually most of this went away due to my own natural efforts, but since i wasnt getting as far as i wanted to naturally, i started my meds(pentasa)

Now, with no med's-no diarrhea, no blood, virtually indectable pain, minimal inflammation sometimes no infammation at all.

Ill explain everything i tried and what worked for me at another time, but i just wanted to let people know that well, i guess it is possible for some, and that includes me. i guess you could say what i did was close to the SCD but not quite ill explain later.

congrats... i so wish i could stop my meds... i'll be glad if i could at least stop the imuran and just do the remicade thing. so we'll see how it goes.

i really haven't changed my diet at all, in fact, it's been WORSE since being diagnosed... i've just been depressed and emotional eating. i really need to get a handle on things and try doing whatever it is you're doing.

its basically the scd diet, but i eat grains and beans, the book "says" that you cant eat them, i tested this"knowledge" out for myself and it wasnt true at all.

beans have to be way overcooked though, you may pass some skins in your stools for a while but it will pass as everything dies down, and digestion improves.

What is definitly true is that lactose is perhaps the #1 bowel destroyer, avoid it at all costs, and avoid all sugar, with the occasional exception of honey but very sparingly.

oh geez, i keep hearing about the sugar thing.... damn it, i so am not ready to let sugar go! argh... but i will have to cut it down for sure.

lactose totally true, it's always caused some upset/gassiness... i can live without that if i choose.... but cutting sugar and eating low fibre is hard for me.

Hi Wildbill - so can you explain when you say no sugar - what can you eat exactly and I am guessing you cant use sweetners either - Life wont be worth living without sugar.

Oh sad. Sugar is the last nice tasting thing that I get to eat. Whaaah! Oh well, if it really would get me into remission, I would try anything. Keep us posted on your progress, and good for you for finding something that works for you.

Apparantly sugar is REALLY bad for us Crohnies. Sucks huh? I always consumed far, far too much and wonder if that has contributed to me getting this disease. Now I have cut out a lot but not all. I thouhgt I could be one of those people who religiously watched my diet and did everything perfectlyt, but that lasted about 6 weeks. I couldnlt do it completely as I was going mental!
I try to keep it to minimum though, say two biscuits/cookies in a day where before i would have candy, 6 biscuits, fizzy drink, something sweet after dinner.......

lol i concurr...

and shazamataz, i totally think that was a major factor in my on set of crohn's... all my life i've had a TERRIBLE diet. well, i've had 'good' periods here and there.... but majority of the time, i'm awful. surprised i don't have diabetes *knock on wood*

i really need to get this eating under control damn it!

I don't know if it can be SCD while eating grains. Since you are still feeding the bad bacteria with satrch! What grains do you eat? Have you at least cut out Gluten grains, mainly wheat as well as yeast like in bread?? What about chickpeas?

I'm now more or less on low residue/low fiber SCD, but eating a little rice and potatoe and Humus to try to keep some weight on ..... For sweeteners i use honey, and sometimes eat grape molasses (it is mainly concentarted heated grape juice) mixed with tahini. It's a very delicious desert here in my country.

If you can go without medication, that's awesome. If I ever am completely off medication, I come out of remission. If it's because of my diet, then so be it. We only live this life once, and I'm not going to resort to eating bland mush the rest of my life just so I can be off of medication. Of course, I'm 20 and food is very important to me right now. When I'm thirty and have kids, my priorities might have changed. But for now, I'm going to eat for taste. For the most part. I don't eat greasy food anymore because it makes me sick and I lost my appetite for it.

Just wanted to give an update that im still off meds, i was expecting to be pressured to take some to help me out, but that has not happened, perhaps only two days that i can recall did it seem like i may have needed it, otherwise i do believe chances are now good that my very short crohn's experiance will be entirely over in a couple of months ill give it six more months until i say (cure) but some may define may independance from medications as cure, but i still have some symtoms and need to avoid certain foods, so i do still have crohns, so not yet cured, but doing well.

So i guess ive been off meds about one month now.
