cure for crohns...?

I was searching through the internet the other day, and I came across this article on the Daily Mail...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-15442/Could-vaccine-help-Crohns-disease.html
Of course, the Internet is not very reliable, especially on daily sites like these, so I asked my doctor about it and she basically told me not to believe everything that I read....
What does everyone else think? Is this real or are we all dooooomed to always need the loo?

Professor Hermon-Taylor is convinced that a bug - known as MAP (Mycobacterium avium patratuberculosis), found in animals and passed into the food chain - is the cause of most human cases of Crohn's disease.

HE may be convinced, but it is certainly not proven to be the case.

Too true, Joan! I literally cringe when my dad says 'SO I read in the paper (The Daily Mail) today..' Even though he knows how I feel about stuff written in it!

I actually think this is interesting. Someone posted previously on here about the map bacteria.

Hmmmm... I have a hard time with that. As far as I understand the MAP bacteria is being held responsible for causing Crohn's? Is that correct? If we assume he is right about that then why in the heck does everybody who drinks a lot of milk not have Crohn's? I've been drinking from the same jugs of milk as my parents right up to diagnosis and beyond. Why do they not have Crohn's?

What about all those "major medical breakthroughs" connecting Crohn's with genes? Prove it to me and I'll believe it and oh most newspapers/magazines only read the abstracts when it comes to reporting on studies. It is more than half of studies have errors in abstracts of a study and they nowhere near show all the information a study contains.

i have had crohns for 29 years and have had 6 operations and now have a stoma bag. I attended a meeting 15 years ago where a professor even then was convinced the problem was in milk I would be interested in doing trials for this to see if there is any improvement

Thanks for posting. I have a hard time believing anything written in the main stream media. I have read similar things before but the data cannot be backed up. The first 10 years I had this disease I would have tried anything to "cure" it. Nothing wrong with continuing to look into different things though! Keep looking!
