dandruff, eczema, dermatitis?

Over the years I have had what seemed to be dandruff on and off. Usually I would use one of those shampoos and it would go away. I even talked to a hair dresser once and she said it looked more like product build up on the scalp and to make sure I rinsed my hair thoroughly after a shower.

Lately I am unable to get it to go away. It is like spots of large flaking. If I do itch it, the skin gets red and hurts. I do not have flaking all over, just in certain spots. In some spots it may also get a sort of crust build up on it too.

What is this? How can I treat it? I have tried every type of scalp treatment at the store (tar shampoo, sulfur shampoo, salacylic acid shampoo, etc., etc.)

If it is seboorhoeic dermatitis of the scalp- which it could be from your description then ketoconazole(nizoral) shampoo works well, also good for dandruff. It is available over the counter in the uk- it is an antifungal shampoo.
