My daughter is receiving her first Remicade treatment on Dec 27th (she was just recently diagnosed. Her Dr is going strait to Remicade). She's had a fistula since June. It was operated on in November; Dr laid it open and made a second incision for further drainage. It still hasn't healed. Will the Remicade heal it and how long might it take? I know everyone reacts differently, so I guess I'm just wondering how long it "typically" takes for it to start healing. This thing is a nightmare!!

Hello Makena's Mom. My daughter started remicade due to a fissure. It started to heal right away after second week. Everybody is different but hopefully your daughter gets relief very soon.

Lucy started remicade a year ago for her perianal disease and while ultimately it didn't work it worked for a while and the results were phenomenal there was a dramatic improvement after about 10 days. Really hope it works for you.

My son started Remicade with an abscess and fistula. While I can't say how quickly the fistula healed because it was internal, I can say the abscess cleared up within 2-3 weeks. I presume the fistula did as well.

Overall, within a day of Remicade #1 my son was feeling a ton better in terms of Crohn's symptoms. He's had the three loading doses now and hasn't complained of nausea or stomach aches or pains in almost two months. Nothing. Nada.

Good luck!!

Hugs Makena's Mom, I have hear great things of remi working really quickly with fistula. It is the next stop for our ds after he finishes his EEN. How did the infusion go??? :ghug:

Thank you all for your support! The infusion went great, no side effects. About two hours after we left, she was back to her goofy self that I haven't seen in months. I'm so so so hoping that we start seeing her fistula heal soon. We go back in two weeks for another treatment and her Dr is expecting to see improvement. As far as her sharp pains she gets after eating, she hasn't had any yet today. So far so good!
