Tie the above in with all the emulsifiers,surfactants,detergents we are exposed to from food emulsifiers,tooth paste,dish detergent, clothes detergent which can loosen/dissolve,make mucus less hydrophobic ,and it only makes it worse.
Good old ivory bar soap is the only safe thing to use,or anything without a synthetic detergent.
Also UC starts distally,if I remember correctly the mucus barrier is thinnest distally.
Tie this in with protease.
