I'm curious how all of you make out with dehydrated fruit and vegetables? On the "heck no" list or do you tolerate them ok?

I can tolerate dried fruit like sultanas, dates, banana chips, veggie crisps. I don't think it's quite the same as the dehydrated stuff you Americans have though. I do have to be careful not to have too many at one time as they are full of fibre and skins, and give me porridgey poo! But no pain.

I find if i can eat them normally then dried is fine. I do like dried fruit on porridge and yoghurt.

Havent tried dried veg tho (except mushrooms and chillis which again are fine)

I'm glad you asked this David. I was tempted by some dried pear and mango pieces at the supermarket yesterday but ended up not buying them because I wasn't sure whether dried fruit was different in some way that made it harder to digest. Both pear and mango are allowed on the LOFFLEX diet, but the sheet of allowed foods says fresh or canned fruit only. It would be interesting to know if dried fruit is ok or not.

Okay...

Sarah has always been able to tolerate dried fruits but since eliminating most of the sugar from her diet she no longer eats them due to the concentration of sugar.

Dusty. :)

It varies. Sometimes I can tolerate dried fruits and sometimes they cause pain, but I don't know if it is the fruit itself that's causing the trouble or something else I ate (cranberries, raisins, apricots, prunes, mango, sweet potato, banana and pineapple are some that I've eaten in my life).

Also, note that some dried fruits have additives, not only sugar, but preservatives such as nitrates or sulfites. These could cause issues as well. I always try to get dried fruits without any additives. The ingredients list should be one ingredient only!

AFAIK I'm ok with them, although haven't eaten too many recently. Sam (my fiance) has just bought a dehydrator ready to dry a load of the fruit and veggies from his allotment. Last year he had so much surplus fruit and veg (plums, raspberries, apples, strawberries, tomatoes, marrows etc) that he made them into jams and chutneys. Even after giving them as gifts to friends and family for xmas and just as gifts for no reason, we still have gazillions left!

I can tolerate dried apples, raisins, banana chips. I am actually making some dried strawberries in the oven right now to see if I can tolerate those (210 degrees for 3 hours / cut strawberries in quarters & bake on cookie sheet. I haven't tried vegi's yet but I know I can't eat any raw vegetables at all.

My son has a dehydrator and makes THE.BEST.FOOD. in the world. Dried apples and meat being the tastiest (no preservatives so fresh and yummy!). I eat in moderation and usually ok.
but now that you bring up this topic, I recall an acquaintance I know who told me a few years ago that she is off meds and controlling her crohns (full remission and no pain) just from eating a dehydrated diet. That sounds very strange, but she said it worked for her, she did her own dehydrating. Can't understand what the mechanism for that healing would be though, other than placebo effect :)
